Introduction

The 2018 AAAI/ACM SIGAI Job fair markedthe third installment of the popular event forboth recruiters and students. As we haveseen steady growth in the attendance at AAAIover the last several years we have seensimilar growth in the number of companiesand students who are actively participatingin the job fair. This year, twenty-one com-panies attended—typically with a team of re-cruiters and other representatives—and hun-dreds of students and other job seekers ei-ther uploaded their resumes to a public bookbefore the event or came through the eventspace during the event. Those resumes werethen shared with participating companies.

In a change of pace, this year’s job fair saweach company pitch themselves with a light-ning talk to a room packed with students, post-docs, and other AAAI conference attendees.Each of the participating companies made asingle compelling slide and a two-minute pitchfor the types of talent they were looking to re-cruit and the opportunities available at their

company. Participating companies were alsoallocated booth space, either in the main ex-hibition hall that was set up for the majorityof the main conference, or in a specific largeconference hall allocated specifically to the jobfair. Many of the companies were looking forboth theoretical and applied machine learn-ing skills but nearly as many needed help withmore classical symbolic AI techniques includ-ing logic programming, planning, and reason-ing. In short the need for AI talent is large andAAAI is a great place to recruit that talent.

optimization, and machine learning.
