7.1 Los Verbos Reflexivos

The subject of a REFLEXIVE VERB both PERFORMS and RECEIVES the action of the verb.
I comb my hair.
She brushes her teeth.
Yo me peino el pelo.
Ella se cepilla los dientes.
Each subject has a corresponding REFLEXIVE PRONOUN.
LAVARSE -to wash oneself
me lavo
te lavas
se lava
nos lavamos
os laváis
se lavan
Notice! REFLEXIVE INFINITIVES end in “SE”
DORMIRSE (oàue)-to fall asleep
me duermo
te duermes
se duerme
nos dormimos
os dormís
se duermen
(BOOT VERBS can be REFLEXIVE VERBS as well!)
Keep in mind, verbs are only REFLEXIVE if the subject both PERFORMS and RECEIVES the action of the verb.
Ella cepilla al perro. Ella se cepilla.
Example: ¿lavar o lavarse?
Él __________ los platos.
Él __________ la cara.

Generally, in Spanish, when referring to a part of the body...use a DEFINITE ARTICLE!
Ella se lava LA cara.
Ella se lava su cara.X
Yo me lavo mis manos.
Yo me lavo LAS manos.X
Like object pronouns, REFLEXIVE PRONOUNS are placed before the CONJUGATED VERB.
Similarly, REFLEXIVE PRONOUNS can be attached to the end of an INFINITIVE.
Yo voy a vestirme. OR Yo me voy a vestir.
Like object pronouns, REFLEXIVE PRONOUNS are placed before the conjugated verb.
Similarly, REFLEXIVE PRONOUNS can be attached to an INFINITIVE or PARTICIPLE.
Yo voy a vestirme. OR Yo me voy a vestir.
Tú estás bañándote. OR Tú te estás bañado.
(Notice! An accent mark is added to maintain stress!)
Yo no me acuerdo (acordarse oàue) de estudiar los verbos.
El joven se acuesta (acostarse oàue)a las diez.
Los hombre se afeitan (afeitarse) por la mañana.
¿Te bañas (bañarse) tú todos los días?
Rapunzel se cepilla (cepillarse) el pelo.
El muchacho se cepilla (cepillarse) los dientes.
Los niños se despiden (despedirse eài) de su padre.
