My friends in Christ,
Our Parish Thanksgiving Mass will be celebrated this Thursday, November 22nd at 9:00 AM. This will be the only Mass celebrated on that day. I encourage you to join us for this special Mass as a family. It is a beautiful way to express our deepest gratitude to Almighty God for the endless blessings that your family and our parish family have enjoyed during this past year. Please consider bringing a non-perishable food item to Mass. These food items can be placed in baskets at the altar before Mass. The food we collect will be sent to the New Britain Food Larder.
On behalf of our priests, deacons, Sr. Elizabeth and Mrs. Lori Rawski and our parish, school and PREP staff, I take this opportunity to thank you sincerely for all you do for St. Jude Parish. We are deeply grateful for your charity and service.

Oh, when the Saints go marching in, our first graders want to be in that number!
Congratulations to our first graders who presented their research projects on their patron saints on November 6th. Parents, grandparents, younger siblings, and friends were amazed at the knowledge and confidence displayed by our young students. Dressed in their "saintly garb", our first graders celebrated the Feast of All Saints in a very real way. Thank you to Mrs. Goodwin and our first-grade parents for providing a special learning experience in the faith for our children.
Thank you to all who joined us for our Mass of Thanksgiving as we celebrated with joy and gratitude the honor of being named a 2018 National Blue Ribbon School! God has blessed all who have attended St. Jude School throughout its 55-year history. May St. Jude School continue to thrive and grow in its mission to provide a strong spiritual and academic foundation for our students.
Fall sports and after-school clubs enrich and extend our students' opportunities for learning, serving, and developing their talents and skills. Basketball and cheer leading seasons invite students to join a team, learn the skills needed, and have fun together. Our after school clubs include Children's Choir, Book Club, Math Club, Sign Language Club, Lego Robotics, Forensics, Garden Club, Daisies, Brownies, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, Beta Club. Thank you to all of our volunteer teachers, coaches, and parents who give their time to provide these programs for our students.
For more information about St. Jude School or to schedule a tour, please contact Pat Kerwin at 215-822-9225 x 25.

Catholic Social Services Job Opportunities
and Foster Care Needs
Catholic Social Services (CSS) is hiring new employees and recruiting
foster parents to work with unaccompanied children from Mexico and Central America. These young people have come here alone or been separated from their families, and most have experienced significant trauma. Jobs include a program coordinator, case managers, therapists, teachers, and ESL teachers, as well as various support positions. Bilingual capacity required or preferred for most positions. Also needed are caring individuals willing to serve as short-term (2-3 months) foster care parents for pre-adolescent children. If you are interested applying for a job position or becoming certified as a foster care provider, please contact Robert Montoro at rmontoro@chs-adphila.org or call 267-341-1253 for more information.
TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION November is a month of remembrance for the dead, and cemeteries have long been a focus for prayer. Our tradition holds great respect for bodily remains, since the body was created and re-deemed by God, was once the "dwelling place of the Holy Spirit," and has a destiny of life with God in glory. The funeral practices of the early church contrasted greatly with those of the pagans, who had a great dread of the dead body. The ancient Christian funeral liturgy ended with the rela-tives and friends giving a final kiss to the body. It expressed affection and showed their faith that the grave would not be the last word. This kiss horrified pagans, who thought that any contact with the dead was degrading. Every year on their loved one's "birthday to life," the Christians would return to the place of their burial to mark their profound communion with those whose lives were hidden in Christ. Typically, they buried the dead with their faces turned toward the east, symbolizing the rising of the Sun of Justice, Christ, at the end of days. They were attracted to the catacombs or burial grounds just as we are today. They would often celebrate the Eucharist at the tomb. Before long, as soon as Christians were allowed to build places for worship, they relocated cemeteries from beyond the city walls to surround the church. This was not so much because the church made the ground holy, but because the bodies of the saints hallowed the ground on which the church was built, a subtle but beautiful difference. --Rev. James Field, Copyright (c) J. S. Paluch Co.
