Juanita GuinnJuanita Welch Guinn, 78, a form-
er Oberlin resident, died Aug. 7,2007, at Colorado Springs.
She was born Oct. 19, 1928, inM u s k o g e e ,Okla., the daugh-ter of Arthur andLaura (Kitchel)Welch.
She marriedDon G. Guinn onSept. 18, 1948, inSan Antonio,Texas. Theylived in manycommunities, in-cluding Africa and the Philippines.Her husband also taught vocationalagriculture at Decatur CommunityHigh School.
Survivors include her husband,Don; two daughters, DianaLeibbrandt, and Donna and BillDeBusk, all of Colorado Springs;five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three brothers-in-law, Bruce Guinn, and Gary andMev Guinn, Oberlin, and Larry andViolet Guinn, Deer Trail, Colo.
She was preceded in death by herparents and her only brother, JamesWelch of Olathe, who died one daybefore her death.
Memorial services were held Sat-urday afternoon at Pikes Peak Chris-tian Church in Security, Colo.Graveside services and burial wereheld Monday morning at the OberlinCemetery.

Gary Dean RowleyGary Dean Rowley, 76, a cousin
of Stan Chapin of Oberlin, died July29, 2007, in Richardson, Texas.
He was bornJune 25, 1931, inOberlin, the sonof Gerald andArlene Verda(Chapin) Droll-inger. After hisparents divorcedand his mothermarried JohnnieLyle Rowley, hewas adopted byhim.
He attended Norton ElementarySchool, Norton Junior High Schooland Norton Community HighSchool, where he graduated in 1950.He attended Kansas State Univer-sity and graduated with a bachelorof science in industrial and manu-facturing systems engineering in1955. He was a member of GammaChi Chapter of Kappa Sigma socialfraternity and Steel Ring HonorarySociety.
He married Carmen LouiseSchoen on Dec. 19, 1954, at theClayton United Methodist Churchin Clayton. He was a member of theActive Ready Reserves for threeyears and served in the United StatesArmy in El Paso, Texas, and FortLawton at Seattle. In Seattle, heserved as a surface to air missile unitcommander. After his honorabledischarge on May 28, 1955, he be-gan working for Collins RadioCompany in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.He was moved to Richardson, Texasin 1962. After Collins Radio waspurchased in 1974 by Rockwell In-ternational, he worked for Rock-well/Collins for 32 years before re-tiring in August 1989.
He was a board member of theAmerican Society of Tools andManufacturing Engineers and of Dr.William Rae’s Human EcologyFoundation in Dallas. He was also

Janet AnthonyJanet Anthony, 75, a sister-in-law
of Keith and Gary Anthony ofNorcatur, died Aug. 9, 2007, atChandler, Ariz., from cancer.
She was born July 16, 1932, andwas the widow of Gerald Anthony,a 1950 graduate of Decatur Com-munity High School. She hadworked as a bookkeeper in housingconstruction, then as an aide for ablood bank in Palm Springs.
Survivors also include their threechildren, Ruth Shulman, Jerri andStephen Qualls, and George andCamilla Anthony; and two grand-children.
Archie L. HarmanArchie L. Harman, 85, a former
teacher and coach at Prairie HeightsSchool in Jennings, died Thursday,Aug. 9, 2007, at his home in Jenn-ings.
He was born Nov. 7, 1921, inMacksville, the son of Henry andPearl (Garner) Harman. He wasreared in Macksville and attendedgrade and high school. He attendedFort Hays State College in Hays,where he received bachelor’s andmaster’s degrees in biology. Heplayed football at Hays and madethe College All-American Honor-able Mention Team.
He married Blanche Buck on Feb.28, 1948, in Hays. They lived inJennings, where he taught biology,general science and drivers educa-tion at the Jennings High School andalso coached football and basketballbefore retiring in 1985. He was amember of the Jennings UnitedMethodist Church, Lions Club,Masonic Lodge and was a BoyScout troop leader.
Survivors include three children,Hank and Cathy Harman, Manhat-tan; Patrick and Francie Harman,Bucklin; and Sherry and Ron Quint,Arlington, Texas; two brothers, Joeand Patty Harman, Hutchinson, andGail and Kay Harman, McPherson;five sisters, Virginia Strait,Weatherford, Texas; Okley Strawn,McPherson; Lorraine Lambert,Frisco, Texas; Oline Kessler, To-peka; and Mabelle Mueller, KansasCity, Mo.; 10 grandchildren; fivegreat-grandchildren; and his specialfriend and companion, VendlaTacha, Jennings.
He was preceded in death by hisparents; his wife, Blanche, onMarch 10, 1998; and a sister, Mar-guerite Carr.
Funeral services were held Mon-day morning at the church inJennings. Pastor Carrie Buhler offi-ciated and burial was at the JenningsCemetery with committal rites bythe Masonic Lodge and AmericanLegion.
A memorial was established tothe church. Contributions may besent to Pauls Funeral Home, 121 N.Penn, Oberlin, Kan., 67749.
William L. Urban Jr.William Leroy Urban Jr., who
was married in Jennings, died Aug.9, 2007, at the Andbe Home inNorton.
He was born Jan. 23, 1932, inPfeifer, the son of William L. andBertha (Jacobs) Urban. He attendedHoly Cross Grade School in Pfeiferand graduated from high school inSchoenchen. He served in the U.S.Army and was wounded in the Ko-rean War.
He married Shirley Kent on May19, 1956, in Jennings.
Survivors include his wife, Shir-ley, Norton; two children, Michaeland Andrea Urban, Inman, andKimberly and David Eagleburger,Norton; six grandchildren; and threegreat-grandchildren; a brother,Arthur and Sharrol Urban, Wichita;and four sisters, Louella Miner,McCook; Sylvia and Ottis Dahle,Bondurant, Iowa; Alverna Jones,Hays, and Elaine and Arnold Shear-er, Almena.
He was preceded in death by hisparents; a granddaughter, AmyEagleburger; a sister, Patricia Streit;and three brothers-in-law, PaulMiner, Harry Jones and VictorStreit.
Mass of Resurrection was heldTuesday morning at St. FrancisCatholic Church in Norton. TheRev. Vincent Thu Laing officiatedand burial was at the Norton Cem-etery.

Maurice L. WilliamsMaurice Leroy Williams, 90, fa-
ther of Pam Wilson of rural Nor-catur, died Aug. 7, 2007, at theDecatur County Hospital.
He was born May 19, 1917, at ru-ral Lenora, the son of Grover El-more and Sarah Elizabeth (Hodge)Williams. He grew up in the Lenoraarea and attended the Lenoraschools.
He married Esther MadelineScott on June 25, 1938, in Norton.They lived in Lenora and the sur-rounding area where he was a ma-son and farmer. His wife precededhim in death on Jan. 18, 1997. Hehad also been a school bus driver. Hewas a member of the Church of Godand of the I.O.O.F. Lodge.
Survivors include three children,Sandra Nicholson, Lebanon, Neb.;Dwight and wife, Becky Williams,Norton; and Pamela and David Wil-son, Norcatur; a sister-in-law, JoyceScott; nine grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and 32 great-grand-children.
He was also preceded in death byhis parents; two children, Carol Annand Lester Leroy; two sons-in-law,Albert Rollmann and Johnnie Nich-olson; three brothers; and three sis-ters.
Funeral services were held Mon-day morning at the Lenora Churchof God in Lenora, followed by burialat the Lenora South Cemetery.

City delays OK on auditThe Oberlin City Council decided
to hold off on accepting last year’saudit, which was presented at ameeting last Monday night.
Auditor Steve Zodrow withMapes and Miller said the financialsbelong to the city, so they can dowith them what they want. Nor-mally after the presentation, he said,he asks for the council to accept theaudit so it can be sent to the state.
This year, though, the council waspresented a discussion draft, not theactual audit.
City Administration Gary Shikesaid there weren’t any surprises inthe audit and the city hadn’t beenwritten up for any problems.
Councilwoman Rhonda Maysuggested the council wait until themeeting Thursday, Aug. 23, to ac-cept the report so everyone wouldhave time to look it over.
Medicationaide class set
Colby Community College willoffer a certified medication aideclass starting in September at theAndbe Home in Norton.
The class is worth four collegecredits. Students will meet from 6 to10 p.m. on Tuesdays, from Tuesday,Sept. 4, through Tuesday, Dec. 18,and from Tuesday, Jan. 1, throughTuesday, Jan. 22.
