AENC Committee Orientation

Any committee is only as good as the most knowledgeable, determined and vigorous person on it. There must be somebody who provides the flame.

AENC Vision & Mission
Vision - Association Management will be widely recognized as an esteemed profession that improves the lives of North Carolina citizens.
Mission- To advance the field of Association Management by providing networking and professional development, while increasing the recognition of the Association community.
AENC Committees & Responsibilities
Annual Meeting - Makes recommendations regarding future sites and formats for AENC Annual Meetings and helps during the event
Golf - Recommends a site for the Annual Golf Outing and assists with planning and logistics, including recruiting sponsors.
AENC Committees & Responsibilities
Legislative Reception - Recommends a site for the Legislative Reception (January of odd-numbered years) and assists with planning and logistics including recruiting sponsors.
AENC Committees & Responsibilities
Membership - Serves as Ambassadors of AENC for new or potential members. Assists with membership recruitment and retention efforts.
Scholarships and Awards - Makes recommendations regarding AENC’s scholarships and awards programs and assists with selection of recipients.
AENC Committees & Responsibilities
Professional Development - This committee develops goals and broad-based plans for AENC educational offerings, including the Annual Meeting and ongoing seminars. This committee examines how AENC’s professional development activities can continue to meet organizational goals.
AENC Committees & Responsibilities
Silent Auction - Coordinates the association’s Annual Silent Auction in order to raise funds for educational scholarships for AENC members.
Trade Show - Assists with planning and logistics of the Annual Trade Show, including recruiting exhibitors.
Committee Chair Job Description
The role of the Chair is a pivotal one for guiding the committees or task force’s work.
The chair should take on the following responsibilities:

Facilitate Committee or Task Force Work
Seek outcomes for the greater good of AENC over outcomes that benefit a specific business or organization.
Plan and lead meetings. Assign tasks to committee/task force members. Monitor the group’s progress, and communicate
with staff members assigned to the committee or task force.
Resolve conflicts among members of the group. Arrange for the committee to evaluate its work at
the end of each program year — or at the completion of its task — to determine whether it accomplished its goals, and what worked and what didn’t work.
Committee Chair Job Description
Communicate with the Board of Directors
Serve as the liaison between the committee or task force and the Board chair, the Board of Directors and the Executive Director.
Keep the Board Chair and the Executive Director informed about the committee or task force’s progress.
Committee Member Job Description
Know the committee purpose-mission. Ask about history and prior achievements. Take it seriously. Prepare, attend and participate in
committee meetings. Attend as many AENC function as
possible, including the Annual Meeting. Complete tasks – be responsible to the
committee and chair.
Committee Member Job Description
Step forward – volunteer to help the committee – share your resources.
Envision yourself as next year’s chairman. Pay attention to association activities that
affect or are affected by the committee's work
Be committed to the mission of AENC. Seek outcomes for the greater good of
AENC over outcomes that benefit a specific business or organization.
