Prototypes I2o Parcial: Thermoforming: blister

design and appearance model with pet

February 14th, 2014

Understand and learn about PET and thermoforming properties.

Understand how to make and prepare molds for the thermoforming machine.

Learn how to use and what we can do with the thermoforming machine

Learn how to get different kind of

finish for the PET:

how to cut it, paint it, etc.

Objectives

ThermoformingIs a process where a plastic sheet

(thermoplastic material) is heated to a high-enough temperature that it can be stretched into or onto a mold and cooled to a finished shape.

The thermoforming machine uses a vacuum to suck up the air and attract the plastic to the mold and get its form.

Termoformado

Project 1: Mold design and blister pack

Los blisters is a pre-formed plastic packaging used for several goods as foods, pharmaceutical, cables, etc.

Basic process: model > packaging

Packaging

POP

Appearance models

Products: Lamp

The teacher will assign a product to each student, who is going to design it’s packaging:

• Plastic protection (PET)• Basic marketing: logo and mark use• Graphic design

Nota: the packaging must be as real as possible, with all the characteristics needed to understand it.

Requirements

Molds•The mold must be made with rigid and solid

materials

•You can use: wood, bateria, mdf, plaster cast, must resist high temperatures (heat).

Molds•Keep rounded corners, all the walls must have a certain angle to remove from its mold (no 90°, no L).

•You need a base for the mold, and it needs little holes to let the machine suck up the air.
