How to follow up a new contact

So you have nailed the first impression, but now you need to follow up and get in for round two.

Here are 6 tips to help turn that initial meet and greet into a long term business relationship.

Connect with them on LinkedIn or follow them on Twitter shortly after the first meeting.

Arrange a time to meet again face to face. This catch-up allows you to get to know them and their business better.

If you have connections that would appreciate being introduced to your new contact, arrange introductions.

Handwrite a personal note thanking them for their time. It’s old-fashioned but it’s a nice touch that will make you stand out.

Congratulate them on their success when you see their activity on social media – they’ll appreciate your interest.

Don’t only contact them when you want something. Check in with them for no reason and show your genuine interest.

A first impression is important but if you don’t follow up the right way it means nothing. It’s the relationship building afterwards that will build you career!.
