David Arnebeck: Boxing 1968

David Arnebeck's father, Wallace Arnebeck, was a state boxing champion. Wallace taught David how to box starting with "play boxing" at a very young age. Wallace would continue to spar David in boxing up until he was approximately 18 years old. Wallace Arnebeck taught the "scientific" approach to boxing where the strategy was never to get hit using good footwork and good technque. Wallace would tell the story of his boyhood idol being world champion, Rocky Marciano, until he met a good coach. His coach said "Yes Marciano was a very tough boxer, but he was NOT a good boxer!" Marciano took a tremendous amount of punishment during his fights. Wallace would point out Muhammad Ali to David (see video below) as a very technical fighter (early and middle career) to be emulated using footwork, distance and technique to avoid getting hit.
