security, virtualization, analytics, cloud computing and other products and services that enable
businesses to store, manage, protect, and analyze data. RSA, The Security Division of EMC, is the
premier provider of security, risk, and compliance- management solutions for business

For this interview, Visiongain interviewed Sam Curry, Chief Technology Officer, Identity and Data

7.1.1 Latest Area of Research
Visiongain: What is your latest project or area of research?
Sam Curry: I run a research organisation that engages in long term academic research (RSA
Labs) and short term threat and threat actor research (FirstWatch). RSA Labs is researching
advanced forms of security analytics, working on identity-related subjects and how to improved
information sharing and threat research. FirstWatch is reverse engineering malware and is
analyzing the threat actors online.
7.1.2 Key Trends and Developments Visiongain: What would you say are the key trends and developments in information security and
why?
Sam Curry: Key trends in information security include a move to more intelligence-driven security,
putting risk management and mitigation at the center and driving more contextual awareness and
information sharing. There’s a lot happening, but those are the most important trends taking place
at the moment. Whether fighting cybercrime (which is almost like battleship warfare) or fighting
APTs (which is more like submarine warfare), it’s about speed, intelligence and action.
