7. Expert Opinion

7.1 EMC Corporation

EMC Corporation is an American multinational corporation offering data storage, information

security, virtualization, analytics, cloud computing and other products and services that enable

businesses to store, manage, protect, and analyze data. RSA, The Security Division of EMC, is the

premier provider of security, risk, and compliance- management solutions for business

acceleration.

For this interview, Visiongain interviewed Sam Curry, Chief Technology Officer, Identity and Data

Protection, Chief Technologist, RSA in January 2014. Mr. Curry was VP of Product Management

where he led the strategic direction for all RSA solutions. Prior to joining RSA, Mr. Curry was VP of

Product Management and Marketing at CA. Previously, Mr. Curry was also Chief Security Architect

and led Product Marketing and Product Management at McAfee. We thank him for his involvement.

7.1.1 Latest Area of Research

Visiongain: What is your latest project or area of research?

Sam Curry: I run a research organisation that engages in long term academic research (RSA

Labs) and short term threat and threat actor research (FirstWatch). RSA Labs is researching

advanced forms of security analytics, working on identity-related subjects and how to improved

information sharing and threat research. FirstWatch is reverse engineering malware and is

analyzing the threat actors online.

7.1.2 Key Trends and Developments Visiongain: What would you say are the key trends and developments in information security and

why?

Sam Curry: Key trends in information security include a move to more intelligence-driven security,

putting risk management and mitigation at the center and driving more contextual awareness and

information sharing. There’s a lot happening, but those are the most important trends taking place

at the moment. Whether fighting cybercrime (which is almost like battleship warfare) or fighting

APTs (which is more like submarine warfare), it’s about speed, intelligence and action.
