Air Heaters Used in Milk Powder Processing

Preview:

DESCRIPTION

Ever wonder how milk powder is processed? Would you believe that process indirect air heaters are used to process milk? This presentation provides a diagram of where the heaters are used in production and an explanation of why indirect fired air heaters are used over direct fired air heaters.

Milk Powder Processing

• Milk powder is manufactured by removing the water through evaporation.

• Powdered milk will have the same taste, smell, and nutritional content of the milk it is being processed with.

• Powdered milk is used in formula, candies, and baking goods.

Indirect Fired Air Heaters Indirect Air Heater

• As you saw from the diagram heat enters the process via the dryers.

• Spray dryers and fluid bed dryers use indirect fired air heaters as their heat source when processing milk.

Why Indirect Fired? Indirect Air Heater • Indirect air heaters must be utilized due to the

sensitivity of milk. – The burner is fired into a heat exchanger, rather than the

combustion chamber, and the air is heated indirectly. – The by-products of combustion do not come into contact with

the milk.
