• Vigo was around in roman times. Throughout the roman and medieval times Vigo was a collection of small villages.

• Vigo has an airport (Vigo- peinador airport) with flights to Paris, London and Brussels and several domestic areas.

• A ferry service operates between and the Atlantic islands of Galicia national park.

Education

• The university of Vigo is situated in the mountains area on the outskirts of the city. The university has several campuses in Pontevedra and Ourense. The campus of Vigo is a modern project of the architect Enric Miralles

• Vigo has 2 daily newspapers: Faro de Virgo and Atlántico Dario. The Faro de Virgo is the oldest newspaper in Spain still circulating.

• Vigo has a basketball team, Ciudad de Vigo Básquet, more commonly referred to today by its sponsorship name of Gestibérica Ciudad de Vigo. They have competed in the Adecco LEB Plata league.

• The Rías Baixas offer a privileged environment for the practice of the nautical sports. Institutions as the Real Club Nautico de Vigo(RCNV), founded in 1906. The RCNV organizes important events like the Atlantic Week.

Hotel

• One of the hotels is the Hotel Puerta Gamboa. From several reviews I found out that it is very nice hotel. One said.

• “Way beyond our expectations. The hotel was recently redone and boy was it nice. The rooms were wonderful, the bathrooms were beautiful! The owner Jose Manuel and his son could not have been any nicer. They bend over backwards to help you.”

Three Cíes

• The three Cíes Islands are just a short ferry ride away from Vigo city and are protected by international Park named Atlánticas National Park. The region is considered to be the most important and beautiful natural landscape that country has. The area is surrounded by turquoise coloured water that comes from the Atlantic Ocean and the white sand dunes, pine forests, island cliffs, Crystal-clear lagoons.

Vigo Museum of Contemporary Art, Vigo

• Vigo Museum of Contemporary Art (Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Vigo) is located in the centre of the city. There are displayed a selection of recent art produced in a broad range of arts: plastic arts, architecture, video, on-line art, design and fashion.

Plaza Elíptica

• Elliptic Plaza is a big leisure centre in the city which was built in 2000. It is spread over an area of 40,000 square metres, devoted to leisure, catering, shopping and 8 cinema screens and 420 parking spaces.
