Best Places to Visit in Udaipur:

1. Udaipur City Palace, Udaipur

The City Palace was built in 1726 by Maharana Jagat Singh I, son of Raj Singh who founded the city of Udaipur. It then underwent several successive additions such as the Chandra Mahal and the towering palace of the present day separated by its fortified wall, moat, driveway and the high gateways called ‘Pols’ with symbols of elephants — a mark of victory of the ruling family on them. The architectural styles of these additions are so different from each other that they appear to be built at widely different times.

2. Lake Palace, Udaipur

Lake Palace is not the only place to visit in Udaipur. The city also boasts of other beautiful places like City Palace, Jagdish temple, Saheliyon ki Bari and Lohawat Haveli. But it is the royal ambience of Lake Palace that catches your eye for the first time. However, this abode needs a fair bit of to-and-fro movement and traffic movement on the four roads leading up to it annoying you at every step.

3. Jagmandir, Udaipur

Udaipur’s historic Jagmandir Palace is another must-visit during your boat ride. This 17th-century palace complex is also situated on Lake Pichola and has divisions like the Garden Courtyard, Gul Mahal, Dorakhana, Bara Patharon ka Mahal, Kunwar Pada ka Mahal and Zenana Mahal. There will be several vendors selling all kinds of handicraft items on the way as well as on the lake; don’t forget to bargain and they will accept whatever you settle for.

4. Jagdish Temple, Udaipur

The Indo-Aryan Jagdish Temple in Udaipur was originally constructed by Maharana Jagat Singh between 1719-1749 CE. The temple lies near the City Palace entry point – Badi Pol and is a flight of around 100 steps up to the location from where it is visible. The black stone deity of Lord Vishnu in Panchayatan style (Lord Vishnu enthroned with god Brahma and goddess Saraswati on either side) will awe anyone who visits the place. This idol is said to be 22 feet tall and you will find images of brass Nandi Bull, Garuda and other deities placed all around the temple premises. There are also many other smaller shrines dedicated to Shiva, G

5. Sajjangarh Palace, Udaipur

The Sajjangarh Palace, also known as the Monsoon Palace or Ram Raja Ki Haveli, is located on a hilltop and offers amazing views of Fateh Sagar Lake and the surrounding Sajjangarh Wildlife Sanctuary. This castle-like building is straight out of a fairy tale and is a perfect example of the opulence of the Rajput rulers – the palace was made just to be able to enjoy watching monsoon clouds gather promisingly in the sky!

6. Fateh Sagar Lake, Udaipur

A city of lakes, Udaipur is best known for the sprawling City Palace and luxuriant views of Lake Pichola. Chiefly a winter getaway, it is the serene calm that makes Udaipur one of the most beautiful tourist destinations in India . The largest among the many reservoirs in and around the city is Fateh Sagar Lake, which has an area of 27 acres;  and boasts spectacular views with its glassy waters. Unique in its surroundings among lakes, because of its shape like a crown and attractive islands within, Fateh Sagar Lake also provides an opportunity for spotting migratory birds. Boating facilities are available here.
