Time to visit the Loire Valley

Guest blog

What’s this all about?Have you visited the amazing Loire Valley? This part of France takes its name from the meandering river that winds its way over 600 miles: from the mountainous Massif Central westwards to join the Atlantic at St Nazaire.

Loire Valley Retreat tells us why Chinon is the perfect retreat:

What to see and do:Hundreds of years ago the area was a playground for the kings of France, with the rich hunting and fishing opportunities proving irresistible.

These royals built many spectacular châteaux that are still to be seen dotted throughout the area and can now be visited. A personal favourite is Chenonceau, often called the ‘Château des Dames’ for the mistresses that it was given to, which is built across the river with stunning galleries and the kitchens are absolutely fascinating!

What to see and do:The town centre of Chinon is mostly pedestrianised with cobbled streets and the upper end is packed with medieval architecture. It’s well worth a walk round, and the Tourist Office now allows you to book a free walking tour with a local, if you would like to tap into somebody else’s love of the place!

And much, much more…
