The Bards

uneet Puri was hooked to a life in the outdoors ever

since her father took her rock climbing at the age of 5.

Trekking and climbing have been a passion with her

and she has been trekking the Uttarakhand Himalayas since her

school days. She has also trekked in Nepal. She is something of

a dare devil and to challenge herself she often treks solo.

G

hashi Bahuguna has been an avid trekker and climber most of her life. She is almost a mountain goat, having grown up in a Kamouni Village and having spent her

childhood in the arms of the mountains. She met Anusha and Guneet on an expedition in the Himalayas. She too treks solo or Alpine style when the mood takes her. She is also a trained rescuer.

S

nusha Subramanian, an award winning journalist, started her trekking career in the Sayadri ranges at the tender age of 7 and had covered most of it by the

time she reached her teens. She started walking the Himalayas in 2006 and has trekked across all 5 Himalayan states. She has also trekked extensively abroad.

The Bohemian Way

ur philosophy with regards to BA is simple, "of the mountains, for the mountains and by the mountains".

We view the mountains as our home and as we do what we do best here, climb and trek, we also aim to give back to our

home by providing a sustainable economic scenario to its residents.

As far as possible we try to provide our clients a glimpse into the

lives of the mountain folk, their culture and traditions with home stays along our trek routes.

Our vision for the years to come includes the promotion of women

in the sport of mountaineering both as team leaders and guides. We also hope to lead by example by having stricter and more

stringent safety and environmental guidelines implemented in the Himalayas.

The Trek

Kamshet is located in the Western Ghats of Sahyadri of an ancient trade route that was once linked the west Coast to the hinterland. The hills along this route are dotted with ancient cave temples, medieval hill fortresses and colonial hill stations. For those who love the nature, there is a lot one the maddening crowd of Lonavala. The other interesting spots around Kamshet are Karla, Bhaja and Bedse caves. These are ancient Bhuddist cave temples with very exquisite carvings and magnificent statues of Bhuddha.

The Trek

Tikona Fort (3500 feet), is one such beautiful fort around Kamshet. As the name suggests it is a triangular shaped can do here. The place is beautiful away from hill fort. From Kamshet you head to Paud via Kale Colony and disembark at the Tikona Peth village which is the base village. From the base village it is a short and easy walk up. It is rather easy to approach and climb this fort. It offers excellent view from the top. The fort has an ancient temple which is now occupied by a Swamiji. At the top there are three good caves and a lake half way up the sumitt. From the top towards the west, you can see the Tung fort ringed by the Pavna Lake. To the north are the forts of Lohagad and Visapur.

The Trek

Milind Gunaji in his book ‘Off beat Tracks of Maharashtra’ says that the one of the

best views of the Tikona Fort can be seen from the villages of Pansoli or Kevre

which can be reached by a launch from Kale Colony. From here the reflection of

Tikona in the blue waters of Pavna Lake is a magnificent sight. It’s a day trip from

Lonavala. After the trek on our way back we stop by

to go see the Bedse Caves.

The Trek

Bedse Caves: These are 1st Century BC caves. These are

Bhuddist caves carved out of one whole rock. The

architecture and science behind these caves is a good

learning. These caves are lesser known and less visited as

compared to Karla and Bhaje caves. This season is a good

time to visit the caves as one can be privy to the lush

greenery during the day time. One needs to climb around 450

steps to get to the caves. It is not strenuous though.
