Why I chose this place?

I chose the Westminster Palace and The big ben because they are an emblematic buildings of the Great Britain and of course they are really lovely. I chose them for their long history too.

The Palace of Westminster

The Palace of Westminster is the meeting place of the House of Commons and the House of Lords, the two houses of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. Commonly known as the Houses of Parliament after its tenants, the Palace lies on the Middlesex bank of the River Thames in the City of Westminster, in central London.

History of The Palace of Westminster

At first the Palace of Westminster was the principal residence of the kings of England until 1512.In 1834 the Palace was burned down. The present Houses of Parliament were built over the next 30 years. They were the work of the architect Sir Charles Barry The House of Commons Chamber was destroyed in a German air attack in 1941. It was rebuilt after the Second World War, the architect was Sir Giles Gilbert Scott.

The Big Ben

The name Big Ben is often used to describe the tower, the clock and the bell but the name was first given to the Great Bell.The Elizabeth Tower was completed in 1859 and the Great Clock started on 31 May, with the Great Bell's strikes heard for the first time on 11 July and the quarter bells first chimed on 7 September.

Did you know?

Did you know that when a king dies the bell sounds different? The sound is more soft, but the people don't remember the sound because the queen is very old.

Did you know the name of the tower is not Big Ben? Big Ben is the name of the bell and the name of the tower is the Elizabeth Tower.
