Some facts about the Himalayas
• Formed only 65 million years ago• Formed when the Indian Plate crashed into (and
under) the Eurasian Plate and pushed the ocean floor up
• Became the highest mountain only 200,000 years ago
• Growing at 5 millimeters per year – will eventually (millions of years from now) collapse under its own weight
• The valleys all around Everest were formed by Glaciers
