Egypt is known for some of the best historical temples. The temple of Hathor is one of them,
located at Dendera, and mostly known as Temple of Hathor in Dendera. It is based at 40 miles
away from Luxor located on the west coast of Nile crossing the town of Qena. The temple was
constructed in Greco-Roman architectural style and it was built during the dynasty of Greek
Ptolemic. Later the temple was extended by Roman Emperors.
How it was discovered
Originally the temple was discovered as buried in the sand. Originally, the temple was
constructed with metal brick ties, and astonishingly, the construction is found same as some of
the old ancient temples of other parts of the world. However, this is the reason the temple of
Dendera is considered as one if the oldest temples of Egypt. The construction metal is soft,
which was surprisingly flexible to withstand the severe movement between the brick-blocks.
The infrastructure
The Temple of Hathor is built on 12 subversive tombs and chambers. While most of these
underground structures are basic and plain, some of the temples walls are found made of
limestone. These walls are found relatively shielded than the sandstone of the temple because of
the curved relics. According to local belief, these temple walls were built even before the entire
construction of the temple was finished.
Its signs and emblems
The temple of Dendera houses some pictures of groups, the zodiac symbols, and some significant
hieroglyphs. The largest display is found on the ceiling at the entrée of the hall. Along with this
pictures some astronomical signs, picture of deities, and some symbols are found carved, which
are not properly deciphered today.
The temple of Hathor in Dendera is known for its splendor and exquisite beauty. You should
include the visit to this temple in your Egypt itinerary list.
