The Hostal Empuries is the perfect place to hold meetings: given the hotel’s charm and

amenities your corporate event is bound to be successful. Innovation and history come

together in this exceptional venue and provide guests with yet another source of

We are the first European hotel awarded the LEED Gold Certification, a distinction that

marks us as leaders in design and sustainable construction. Fifty-five luxurious rooms

are distributed between the centuries-old Hostal and our new, modern building. Our

cuisine embraces three intertwined concepts: organic, balanced and thoughtful, and we

tailor our menu to each individual event. We opened our spa in 2011 and offer all

participants in corporate meetings free access to our gym and spa circuit.

We boast conference rooms with character, bathed in natural light and overlooking

either the sea or the organic garden we’ve cultivated on the hotel’s grounds.

We strive to share a sense of social and sustainable responsibility with our clients as we

organize their events, promoting new, non-aggressive ways of interacting with the

environment that are socially and culturally enriching for ourselves and for our guests.

In a privileged location, the Hostal Empúries offers the ideal facilities so that your work meeting, seminar, integration programme, and/or incentive trip can be just as productive and enjoyable as you have envisioned.

Hostal Empúries’s sustainable efforts also include the meetings and events services. With this, we are seeking to share the social and sustainable responsibility with our customers and promoting new models which are non-aggressive with the environment and which are socially and culturally enriching. This is a central force towards a new model for business tourism.

Els Pinars

This room is filled with natural light. It has views of the Palms Garden and our vegetable garden, and has two access points (from the Hostal’s Reception and from the Palms Garden), in addition to air conditioning, heating, underfloor heating, LED lighting, and restrooms inside the room.

Palms garden

This is an open-air space where you can take coffee breaks or have cocktails between two beautiful palm trees.

Sala Mar

With one of the best views of the Costa Brava, the Sala Mar offers the perfect space for a gala lunch or dinner. If your programme requires it, we can also do work sessions, presentations, or seminars in this room.

Villa Teresita

This restaurant can be separated into two sections (North and South), making it the ideal place to enjoy group lunches and/or dinners. Just as with the Sala Mar, this restaurant has incomparable views.

Terrace

Our terrace covers the entire front part of the hotel, has two access points, and offers the possibility of having outdoor lunches or dinners, ceremonies, and/or team activities; it can also be divided into two sections (North and South).

Library

Here you can hold your small meetings, team projects, and exclusive chats in the most cosy space in the hotel.

FOOD AND BEVERAGE SERVICES

All of the products which arrive at the Hostal Empúries have followed a path that has been reviewed by the Hostal with the objective of verifying that they meet the standards for ecological responsibility, such as CO2 emissions control, the use of chemical pesticides, or the stress of the transportation, amongst others. Our philosophy is to monitor the quality of the product throughout the entire process, from the origin until it reaches the plate, that is, to guarantee the absolute traceability of the product. Depending on your agenda and goals of the event, we can offer you working meals, buffets or served menus; dining menus, gala or cocktails. Here you have some examples of menus:

ROOMS The Hostal Empúries has 55 rooms which are distributed between the Old and the New Hostal. The Old Hostal came to be at the beginning of the 20th century when it housed the first archaeologists who came to work at the ruins in Empúries, under the direction of Josep Puig i Cadalfalch. It offers simple and comfortable rooms which have maintained the vintage and romantic spirit of their origins. Completely renovated, it has 36 double and family rooms, half of which have views of the sea and from which you can hear the waves breaking on the beach. The other half have views of the organic vegetable garden which supplies the Hostal’s kitchen, as well as views of the green roofs which cover the entire building and of the pine forests which are characteristic of the area. The New Hostal has 19 large, modern rooms which are fully equipped with the latest technologies and sustainable materials. With a private terrace and views of the sea or the garden, these rooms are the symbol of a new era at the Hostal Empúries. This new era is characterised by the distinction as leaders in sustainable design and construction by the LEED Gold Certification. This is the description of our rooms:

The New Hostal:

The 2012 extension in the Spa area houses 19 modern spacious rooms (30-37 m2) with generous terraces facing the sea or the garden. Tastefully decorated with design elements, the rooms are equipped with the greatest attention to detail for maximum comfort during your stay, respecting the surroundings and environment. The 19 rooms have a private terrace with sea or garden view. They have a double king size bed or 2 large twin beds, a fully equipped bathroom with a large bath and separate rain-effect shower, hairdryer and toiletries. The rooms have a flat-screen television, telephone, air conditioning, central heating, safe and minibar. Rooms are 100% smoke free. All rooms have free Internet access with Wi-Fi.

The ancient Hostal: The old Hostal offers 36 charming 100-year old rooms, some of which have balconies with a view of the sea and a lovely organic vegetable garden. Refurbished and decorated with taste and simplicity, they bring to life the spirit of this legendary, dearly loved Hostal. All rooms have free Wi-Fi. Double Room Sea View These bohemian-style rooms have sea views through a beautiful window. They have a double queen size bed or twin beds, and a bathroom with shower in the bath. The rooms have a telephone, air conditioning, central heating, and a safe. Rooms are 100% smoke free. The rooms are approximately 12m2 and do not have a television. It is a space where each guest can feel more vital, healthy, and renewed—inside and out. Enter a dimension that will improve your quality of life, prevent diseases, and balance your mind and body.

Our spa offer also includes a menu of booth treatments and therapies, for which we use only healthy products with natural origins, free of silicones and petroleum derivatives, and which are made with biodegradable ingredients based on algae, mud, and salt. Some of our treatments include relaxing, sport and localised, facial, and pre-natal massages, as well as body wraps.

SOLIDARITY PROGRAMME The Hostal Empúries has implemented a Solidarity Programme which is led by our employees and which makes our customers participants in that the Hostal matches each euro that they invest in the project. The “1=2 Programme” has created a cultural centre in the city of Koudougou in Burkina Faso to educate a total of 150 children and help them get into a complete health and nutrition programme. Burkina Faso in one of the 5 poorest nations in the world and has one of the highest infant mortality rates and lowest literacy rates of the African continent.

A SUSTAINABLE HOTEL The Hostal Empúries was the first hotel in Europe to receive the LEED Gold Certification, which accredits us as a Leader in Energy and Environmental Design in accordance with the internationally accepted standards. The Cradle to Cradle eco-philosophy is centred on redesigning any product or service in a way that is not only respectful of the environment but that also enriches it and participates in the eco-diversity of the environment. It promotes the use of solar energy as a principal source of energy, the celebration of abundance and the diversity of the biological system, and, especially, the emulation of those systems in which all of the elements contribute and there is no waste. The following are some examples of the application of this eco-philosophy at the Hostal Empúries:

- Food and garden waste: we compost both the organic waste from the kitchen and the yard waste from the garden. The compost is reused as fertiliser in our own garden and yard.

- Materials with natural fibres: we have used materials such as black

agglomerated cork with natural resins (suberin) and wood from certified FSC growers and bamboo (wood with a fast growth cycle) for the insulation of the green roof, the woodwork, and the floor. These materials are installed in such a way as to leave them easily separable, and eventually compostable or recyclable, keeping the product’s carbon cycle going.

- Production and consumption of energy: the reduction in the demand has been attained via passive strategies such as natural ventilation, the position of the buildings, and the green roofs, as well as maximising the efficiency of the active systems through the installation of solar thermal panels, and lighting using LEDs and Green Power certification, amongst many others. 100% of the energy consumed at the Hostal comes from renewable energy, and we also produce 33% of the energy we consume via the solar panels.

- Hydrosphere (Hydrological Cycle): the grey water and rain water which are

reusable are used for irrigation and for refilling cisterns. The average water consumption per guest is reduced by half due to the installation of flow regulators on taps, showers, urinals, cisterns, etc. The gardens with plants characteristic of the region prevent the erosion of the land and make it so that water is a generator of life and not an aggressive agent.

- Light-weight concrete blocks for all of the structure coverings, a completely

organic material which is very insulating, both thermally and acoustically.
