[ Cambridge Bay ]

Cambridge Bay was called “Ikaluktuutiak” by the indigenous Inuit,

which translates into “good fishing place". Archaeological sites were

found with evidence of fishing.[ Resolute ]

It is the final resting place of several of the crew from the ill-fated

Franklin’s expedition of 1845. Now it an ideal location for

expeditions to the North Pole.[ Churchill ]

Churchill, which lies on the edge Hudson Bay in Canada's Manitoba

region is probably the best known place in the world for seeing polar

bears.[ Akpatok Island ]

Akpatok Island is an uninhabited island about 70 km from the

mainland of northern Quebec. It is a favourite summer hang-out for

polar bears.

Current Situation of Polar Bears

Current Situation of Polar Bears

The earth is currently at the end of the last glacial period, there is no sign of turning into a new glacial period. The temperature will continue to rise which will lead to the melt of the ice in the polar caps.

Some of the polar bears are spending more time on land, as sea ice decreases at a rate of about 4.6% a decade.

Current Situation of Polar Bears

Current Situation of Polar Bears

Polar bears started to expand their range to even the north of Ontario. They are no longer coming off the ice for a month or 2 in the summer, they’re spending 5 to 6 months on land.

What out of expectation is the increasing number of polar bears in recent years, which may due to the proper protection. There are more than 17,000 polar bears in Canada in 2012.

The advertising slogan will not protect polar bears, only the scientific and practical measures can do.
