Example of Stray - Stray Asia and PATA Laos - Plastic Bag Recycling Project

Problem IdentifiedLaos has a major problem with plastic bags and bottles being thrown onto the ground, and often ultimately ending up in the rivers. Recycling is available, but it is on a small scale, and only available in major centres such as Vientiane.Stray is proposing to be the official transport provider to bring plastic from rural Laos, for recycling in Vientiane.

An excellent video which summarizes the fact and figures can be watched here:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWrxkdh3p7k&feature=player_embedded

To raise funds and awareness, we propose to have re-usable bags made, at a cost of 20,000 LAK each, and sold to Stray customers for 25,000 LAK. The 5,000 LAK will be collected by Stray, and used to develop the project further, and cover admin and marketing costs in promoting the project.
