SWISS HOTELS REPORTED DECREASE OF OVERNIGHT STAYS IN SEPTEMBER The Swiss Authority reported that the number of hotel stays in the country fell in September. The decrease is 1 percent in September, or about 34,000 Swiss hotel stay less compare to the same period of the last year. However, the main contributors the negative trends are domestic guests, the authority reported that the number of stays credited to Swiss guests decreased by 2.5 percent, counts about 1.5 million stays. While the number of foreign tourists to Swiss hotels increased by 0.3 percent, it represents about 1.8 foreign hotel stays. Overall 3.4 million overnight stays, were reported. Quite importantly, records show that the number of EU tourists staying in Swiss hotels decreased by over 9 percent. The huge drop registered by visitors from Germany – 16 percent decrease compare to the same period in the last year. Numbers of Asian guests, however, are on the increase. For example, number of Chinese tourists created an extra 40,000 Swiss hotel stays in September. It represents a 40 percent increase. Also, it is need to be mentioned that it is continuing rising trend from the August, when Swiss hotel owners reported 38 percent more Chinese visitors stayed overnight in Switzerland compared to August 2014. Figures show that 9 out of 14 Swiss cantons registered a decrease in overnight stays. Overall overnight hotel stays in Switzerland from January to September 2015 is 28.5 million. It is 0.5 percent decrease compared to the first nine months in 2014.
