WILDLIFE

Existing within a concrete jungle hardly ascertains the fact that

India has the second largest wildlife base in the world. Here in

the environs of the tropical forests of the Ghats, the Deccan

Peninsula, the Gangetic plain, the North Eastern Region and the

evergreen slopes of the Himalayas house an ample variety of

wild animals: tigers, snow leopards, elephants, antelopes, deer,

black bucks, bears, jackals, hyenas, wild buffalos etc.

Come and enjoy the cinematic exhibition during your sojourn in

the wilds. The highlights of these safaris are gripping jeep safaris,

treks, bird watching, wild life movies, photography workshops

and music renting the evening air around a bonfire.

You have our full support to shoot tiger at the well known

Manas, Ranthambore, Bandhavgarh and Kanha national parks,

the one-horned rhinocerous in the Kaziranga reserves or the

nearly extinct white lion at the Sasangir Sanctuary but through

the camera lens alone!

ADVENTURE

For those who want to break free from their otherwise mundane

life routine, we offer a series of adventure holidays: short

weekend stimulation or longer period of adventurous activity.

The Himalayan ranges intimidate and enthrall you into a state

of stunned silence. These majestic mountains have quite a few

spectacular pursuits to offer an adventurer, be it mountaineering,

rock climbing, trekking or river rafting.

Breathe in nature in the raw on a camel safari or in a jungle.

Paragliding exudes an inexplicable sense of thrill for those who

reach out to experience new heights. Gliding down a ski slope,

water rafting down cascading streams pushes the adrenalin levels

of people who dare. Windsurfing, sailing, scuba diving bring in a

sense of fulfillment for water babies.

Holiday camps help you to connect and appreciate the bounty

of nature.

There is always something for everyone - those who dare, the

Set like a jeweled crown on the map of India, Kashmir is a

multifaceted diamond, changing its hues with the seasons

– always extravagantly beautiful. The Mughals aptly called

it ‘Paradise on Earth’ where they journeyed across the hot

plains of India, to the valley’s cool environs in summer,

Kashmir is a land where myriad holiday ideas are realized –

Golfing at 2,700 m above the sea, water-skiing in the lakes

or simply drifting down the willow fringed alleys of lakes in

shikaras and living in gorgeous houseboats.

SRINAGAR

Srinagar is located in the heart of the Kashmir valley and

spread on both sides of the river Jhelum. The Dal and Nagin

lakes enhance its picturesque setting, while the changing

play of the seasons and the salubrious climate ensures that

the city is equally attractive to visitors around the year. Its

waterways with own quaint lifestyle, the unique ‘Houseboat’,

the blossoming gardens, water sports activities, shopping

for lovingly handcrafted souvenirs and the nearby resorts

make it a cherised spot among those looking for a

memorable holiday.

GULMARG

Gulmarg - the ‘meadow of flowers’, is an apt term indeed

for idyllic flower-laden meadow situated at a distance

of 52 kms from Srinagar. The towering peaks above the

meadow are covered with dense forests of tall conifers

and gigantic fir and pine trees, all vying with each other

to touch the azure skies. An equally popular destination

in summer, it is also known for its lush green golf course,

which is the highest in the world. A must is fun-filled ride

in the newly introduced gondola lift through the pine-

clad slopes.

SONAMARG

Sonamarg – the ‘meadow of gold’, is situated in the

Sindh Valley. The drive to Sonamarg presents yet another

spectacular facet of countryside in Kashmir. The fast flowing

Sindh River makes it popular for trout and mahseer fishing

in summer. Highly recommended is a pony ride to one of the

glaciers for some fun in the snow and ice.

PAHALGAM

Pahalgam – the ‘valley of shepherds’ is situated on the

confluence of streams flowing from river Lidder and Sheshnag

Lake. It offers wonderful treks, skiing, mountaineering and

camping sites. En route to Pahalgam is the Avantipura ruins,

a 1100 year old temple dedicated to Lord Vishnu.

KATRA (VAISHNODEVI)

Located 46 kms from Jammu, Katra is the base camp to visit

the famous shrine of Mata Vaishno Devi. It’s a 13 km walk

to the shrine along the laid footpath. The cave shrine of

Mata Vaishno Deviji or Trikuta Bhagwat (alt: 5,200 ft.) has

been a beacon of faith and fulfillment to millions of devotees

from all the world. Popular belief holds that anybody who

walks the Himalayan trail to her abode to ask for a boon,

rarely goes back disappointed.

FLAVOUR OF KASHMIR5 DAYS / 4 NIGHTS – EX SRINAGAR

33

Page 35: North India Tour Bharat Deko Packages by Cox and Kings
Page 36: North India Tour Bharat Deko Packages by Cox and Kings

Snuggled in the Himalayas and virtually a travelers paradise,

Himachal is endowed with spectacular landscapes, mighty

snow peaks, deep gorges, lush green valleys, flower filled

meadows, misty woods, fast flowing icy rivers, glaciers

and enchanting lakes. The scenic valleys of Kullu, Kinnar

and Kangra dipped in a splash of colours are in sharp

contrast to the arid topography of Lahaul and Spiti which

nonetheless apparently present a lunar landscape like

beauty. The state offers superb locations for relaxing and

sight seeing and tremendous opportunities for trekking,

mountaineering fishing, river rafting, skiing paragliding

and ice-skating.

SHIMLA

Pine scented hills that offer fabulous views, beautiful peaks,

clear blue skies, fragrance of cedar forests in summer, the

romantic mist of the monsoons and the golden hillsides of

autumn – Shimla beckons you! It came into prominence

nearly a century ago as the summer capital of the British

Raj. This beautiful mountain resort has some excellent

walking trails through dense woods of oak, pine and fir.

MANALI

Encircled within pine – clad soaring peaks, Manali is a

picturesque hill resort. It is a flourishing orchard industry,

a popular honeymoon destination and trails for numerous

treks as well as a great countryside for adventure sports

such as river rafting, trekking, paragliding, mountaineering,

etc. The river Beas cascades along amidst the grassy

meadows carpeted with wild flowers. It’s main attraction is

the 450 years old temple dedicated to Hadimba Devi and

a Tibetan Monastery. Just on the outskirts of Manali is the

pictoral village of Vashisht famed for hot sulphur springs. A

place not to be missed is snow point on Rohtang Pass road.

The Rohtang Pas is 51 km from Manali at 3978 meters.

This was for centuries the gateway to the trading routes

that led to Lahaul and Spiti. The Manali market is crowded

with myriads of interesting shops selling Tibetan carpets

and crafts.

DHARAMSHALA

Dharamshala, the principal township in the Kangra

Valley region is magnificently set in the background of

the Dhauldhar Mountains. Pine forests cover the hillsides

and numerous streams cut a path through them, allowing

‘Rajasthan – The Land of Kings’ is an enduring legacy to

India’s history. Its diversified landscape of desert, lush

plains and wooded Aravali Hills, has inspired poets,

writers and painters. No other region in the country

assembles the many paradoxes of India, as does the

desert land of Rajasthan.

JAIPUR

The city of victory is surrounded by rugged hills, each

crowned by a formidable fort, beautiful palaces, mansions

and gardens dotted throughout its precincts. The tourist

attractions in Jaipur include the ancient capital fort of

Amber that has the sprawling complex of courtyards and

halls having delightful wall paintings with precious stones

and mirrors inlaid in the wall; the ‘Palace of Winds’ also

known as Hawa Mahal; The City Palace, a complex of

exquisite palaces, gardens and courtyards and the Jantar

Mantar – an astronomical wonder built by Sawai Jai Singh

that makes accurate time predictions even to this day.

BIKANER

Situated in the Northern Thar Desert, Bikaner is an Ochre-

coloured sandstone fortress city surrounded by high medieval

ramparts. The Junagarh Fort was built on the desert plains

itself. Built of red sand stone, the palace boasts of some of

the finest sandstone and marble carvings. The city also has

the only rat temple dedicated to the Goddess Karni Mata.

JAISALMER

Jaisalmer – the golden citadel, etched in yellow sandstone,

stands tall against miles of gleaming sand. Renew yourself

amid the past galore, as you visit the golden-hewed Jaisalmer

Fort that stands almost 30 metres over the city with its 99

bastions. Architecturally a marvel the Fort is made up of

boulders that cannot be penetrated by canon balls. A ride

on camel back into the desert at Sam sand-dunes to watch

the sun set is an unique experience.

JODHPUR

Nestling within the depth of Thar Desert, is Jodhpur, once

the capital of the former princely state of Marwar. Flanked

on its western side by the Meherangarh Fort, and on the

eastern side by the stately sandstone Palace of Umaid

Bhawan, the monuments, temples and gardens of Jodhpur

depict a multi-faceted grandeur.

UDAIPUR

The city of Dawn, Udaipur is a lovely land around the azure

water lakes, hemmed in by the lush hills of the Aravalis. Set

on the shores of Lake Pichola, Udaipur grew in complete

contrast to the harsh deserts of the rest of Rajasthan. The

16th century brought about an era of renaissance in the art

and encouraged the building of beautiful palaces around the

lake. The lake itself is a romantic setting surrounded by the

gleaming white Lake Palace and the Jag Mandir.

MOUNT ABU

Mount Abu is a summer and winter resort with its shaded

woods, sheltered temples and shrines. Situated at a height

of nearly 1200 meters are Dilwara Jain Temples exquisitely

carved in marble. Besides the pure white marble used for

construction, the temples are famous for the intricacy of

the carvings which more like lace than stone and can rarely

be seen elsewhere. The Nakki Lake is popular for boat rides

and Gaumukh Temple, where a little stream flows from the

mouth of a marble cow.

Welcome to an enthralling tour through the four

ostentatious vibrant cities of India – Delhi, Agra, Jaipur and

Gwalior also known as the Golden Quadrangle. Enjoy the

trip that treasures the opulent vista of life! Allow the trip to

acquaint you with the cultural, historical and architectural

hereditary magnificence of the capital of India, the city of

Taj Mahal the Pink City of Rajput kings and the historical

city of Gwalior.

DELHI

India’s capital and a major gateway to the country,

contemporary Delhi is a bustling metropolis, which

successfully combines in its folds, the ancient with the

modern. Some of the monuments worth a visit are Raj

Ghat, a simple memorial dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi,

Red Fort built during the years 1643 – 1648 overlooking

the river Jamuna. New Delhi reflects the legacy the British

left behind. The sites in New Delhi are the Government

Secretariat; President’s Palace; Parliament House and the

India Gate. The Qutab Minar is the tallest stone tower in

India. The Baha’i Temple also known as Lotus Temple is set

amidst pools and gardens.

AGRA

Great empires have flourished in Agra and then grown to

engulf the whole country. Its line-up of monuments today

stands mute testimony to the splendour of a bygone era.

The Mughals, besides being great rulers, were also great

builders and they preserved their best architectural wonders

for Agra and its neighbourhood. The magnificent Taj Mahal

is the greatest of them and is a masterpiece of Mughal

architecture. The Agra Fort, the delicate artistry of Itmad-

ud-daulah’s tomb, and Akbar’s deserted capital - Fatehpur

Sikri, are each unique and outstanding and are rated close

to the Taj Mahal.

JAIPUR

Jaipur – the city of victory is surrounded by rugged hills, each

crowned by a formidable fort, beautiful palaces, mansions

and gardens dotted throughout its precincts. The main

tourist attractions in Jaipur include the ancient capital fort

of Amber that has the sprawling complex of courtyards and

halls having delightful wall paintings with precious stones and

as Hawa Mahal; The City Palace, an overwhelming complex

of exquisite palaces, gardens and courtyards and the Jantar

Mantar – an astronomical wonder built by Sawai Jai Singh

that makes accurate time predictions even to this day.

GWALIOR

The historical city of Gwalior is rich in cultural heritage and

architectural marvels. The massive fort overlooking the city

is a testimony to its glory and grandeur. Gwalior changed

hands from the Tomars to the Lodhis of Delhi and after the

Mughals it was finally ruled by the Marathas. Each era and

rulers left their impression on the city but what remained

unchanged is the imposing fort that has withstood the

assault of time.
