A powerful earthquake slammed New Zealand's city of Christchurch on Tuesday 22.02, killing at least 65 people, and sending rescuers scrambling to help people trapped under collapsed buildings. The 6.3 magnitude earthquake hit the country's second largest city around lunchtime, causing buildings to collapse and sending bricks and other heavy debris toppling into busy city streets. True prayer brings joy, gives strength to overcome difficulties, so pray for them!

The Kea (Nestor notabilis) is a native bird found in alpine regions on the South Island of New Zealand. The Kea Bird finds car parking lots very intriguing and sometimes you can find these New Zealand parrots gathering around these lots where they enjoy destroying parts of cars, cameras and robbing small objects.

The Maori are the native inhabitants of New Zealand and are of Polynesian origin numbering over 500,000 today. This is about 15% of New Zealand's population. Over 95 percent of Maori live on New Zealand's North Island.
Today the Maori have generally adjusted well to western culture and the population has increased substantially. Since 1980 the Waitangi Tribunal, a government body established to settle legal claims based on the 1840 Treaty of Waitangi, have engaged in recompensing Maori for land that was illegally confiscated.
Kowhai is famous for its beautiful yellow or golden flowers, which is the national flower of New Zealand. The trees flower in early spring and their nectar is a favorite food for Tui and Kereru (wood pigeon). Kowhai's are popular garden and street trees. In Maoritanga, (Maori language) Kowhai means 'yellow'.
