A British soldier named Sir Charles Napier was the man who named Napier. In 1918 a great Hawke's bay earthquake was one of the deadliest that Napier ever had. After the big earthquake there were lot’s of holes in the ground. Napier and Hasting were named after British.

• A landmark of Napier is Marine Land. Marine Land also runs the War Centre. It also has a colony of Little Blue Penguins. They have only 1 Dolphin in Marine land.
