Puducherry formerly known as Pondicherry is a union territory of India. The union territory consists of four small unconnected districts: Puducherry, Karaikal and Yanam on the Bay of Bengal, and Mahe on the Arabian Sea. Puducherry and Karaikal are the largest area and both are enclaves of Tamil Nadu, Yanam and Mahe both are enclaves of Andhra Pradesh and Kerala respectively, that’s why there are three official language Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam. The union territory was French India due to possession of French East India Company in the 17th century.

It is a most crowded area for Indian and international tourists. It is the one of the most busy tourist hub. The French affect in culture still alive, the town is divided in two sections French quarter and Indian quarter. The French quarter is known as white town , many streets retains French names, and villas in French style architecture, buildings are typically in colonial style with long compound and stately walls. The Indian quarter houses are consist with veranda, large doors and grilles. This place is for everyone. It has worship places such as temples, churches, mosques, for adventure lovers and honeymoon couples beaches, museum, parks, etc. First move towards Auroville , it is a universal town where men and women of all countries are able to live in peace with progressive harmony above all creeds, all politics and all nationalities. There are people comes from across the world, they live together in harmony, you can also stay there and learn many things from them. After the Auroville, you can move to Sri Aurobindo ashram there you can find spiritual books. After these places, let’s take a look of monuments and statues, Mahatma Gandhi statue, Joseph Francois Dupleix was left Puducherry in 1754, his statue is located at Puducherry beach, previously it was located on Goubert Avenue at the end of the Promenade Beach.

The French War Memorial is situated in the white town. It was built in the 1971 to commemorate the martyrs of the First World War. Aayi Mandapam (Park Monument) is a white monument built during the time of Napoleon III, Emperor of the France. It is situated in the center of Bharathi Park. The monument commemorates the provision of water to the French city during his reign. It was named after a lady courtesan called Ayi. She destroyed her own house to erect a water reservoir to supply water for the city. The museums are keeping so many things from the Pallav and Chola dynasties such as sculptures of bronze, there are lots of belongings in other museums like Bharthidasan Museum , Ananda Ranga Pillai , Subramanyam Bharthi . You

will find their poetries, some belongings from the French. There are parks are also enjoyable, children can have fun on the rides at Botanical Garden , Bharati park , science park , there you can explore your mind to new things.

Chuunambar or Paradise Beach is 7 km past Pondicherry, along the Cuddalore Main Road. Located at a point where the Chunnambar River backwaters meet the Bay of Bengal, it has something for everyone.
