Leave a copy of a travel itinerary with the family

Itinerary should include a full schedule of day-to-day plans. Scheduled events include which airports are being utilized throughout the vacation as well as flight times and flight numbers.  Hotel phone numbers and addresses should also be included in the travel itinerary. These things are important for family members to have just in case something does happen back home and they need to contact travelers while on vacation.

Make sure passports are filled out completely and correctly

Whenever a traveler goes through

customs a photo copy of their

passport is taken. If the emergency

contact information is not filled out

correctly there is no chance for the State Departments or the

Embassies to contact vacationer’s families

in the event of an emergency. Always

fill out passport emergency contact

information completely and make sure the information is

current.

Laws and insurance

Most foreign countries have different laws than those we are familiar with in the

United States. Travelers should always

familiarize themselves with the legal system of

the visiting country. Some insurance

providers do not cover accidents that occur outside of the United

States; make sure health insurance

providers are contacted before leaving the

country. The last thing any traveler wants to

do is have to pay out of pocket for injury that

may occur while traveling abroad.
