Largest Country in the World

Covering an area of approximately 17,075,200 sq. km, Russia is considered the largest country in the world in terms of surface area.

This is said to be an impressive one-eighth of the Earth’s inhabited land area. Due to this, Russia is also apparently the ninth most populous country having a population of about 140 million people (March 2016).

Lake Baikal-Largest Freshwater Lake in the World

Called the ‘Galapagos of Russia’, Lake Baikal boasts of being the world’s largest freshwater lake by volume containing around 20% of the world’s unfrozen fresh water.

At about 1700m, this lake is also the deepest lake in the world.

Time in Russia-Time Zone

Russia has eleven time zones. It is the only country which has consecutive time zones ranging from UTC+02:00 to UTC+12:00.

The Samarskaya Luka has been since 1984, Mariy Chodra since 1985 and the Bashkiriya, Prielbrusye, Pribaykalsky, and Zabaykalsky have been since 1986.

Longest Railway

The Trans-Siberian railroad spanning about 9,258km long – is the longest railroad in the world.

The journey starts from Moscow and reaches Vladivostok in 7 days.
