Olympics In London London has hosted the Olympic Games on past two occasions , in 1908 and 1948, with a third scheduled for 2012. The planned 2012 Summer Olympics will make London the first city to have hosted the modern Games of three Olympiads. London is the only city in the United Kingdom to have ever hosted the Olympics; the United States is the only country to have hosted Summer Olympics on more occasions than the UK. No city in the UK has hosted the Winter Olympic Games.

2012 Summer OlympicsThe 2012 Summer Olympics are planned to take place between 27 July 2012 and 12 August 2012. The London 2012 Olympic bid was announced as the winner of the bidding process on 6 July 2005. The planning for the Games is still ongoing, with many announcements and developments taking place.

Cultures of LondonLondon has a rich cultural heritage. Many colorful, vibrant, and joyful festivals are celebrated by the people of London. London is widely believed to be the culture capital of the world. London is also home to notable cultural attractions such as the British Museum, the Tate Galleries, the National Gallery, the Notting Hill Carnival and The O2.A variety of landmarks and objects are cultural icons associated with London, such as Big Ben, Buckingham Palace and the tube map.

The New Year's Day Parade is a parade of 10,000 performers from all around the world through the streets of the West End of London from Parliament Square to Piccadilly, which takes place annually on 1 January . The first year the parade took place was 1987. The parade was renamed in 2000 as the Millennium Parade .

Chinese New Year Festival

The Chinese New Year festival to mark the start of the Chinese New Year, the date varies from late January to mid-February . The Chinese New Year is often referred to as the "Lunar New Year ". In China, it is known as "Spring Festival".

St Patrick's Day Parade

The Parade is in commemoration of St Patrick where bands from the UK, Ireland and USA, community groups, and others take to the streets of central London for a spectacular march. Saint Patrick's Day is a cultural and religious holiday celebrated on 17 March. The tradition came about at the instigation of the Irish Protestant organization.

Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race

Cambridge and Oxford University boat clubs race annually each Spring on the Thames river along 4.25 miles. The event is very popular, not only with the alumni of the universities also with rowers in general and the public who wants participate . The Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race is a truly historic occasion started from 1829. London Marathon

The London Marathon is the second largest marathon race . The race is along a course of 42.195 km (26 miles and 385 yards). Runners stretches from Greenwich Park and Black Heath to the Buckingham Palace Mall. It has a $1 million prize purse. It has been held each spring in London since 1981.

The Chelsea Flower Show

The Chelsea Flower Show, formally known as the Great Spring Show, is a garden show held for five days in May by the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) in the grounds of the Royal Hospital Chelsea in Chelsea, London. The show is the most famous flower show in the United Kingdom . JUNE

City of London Festival

The City of London Festival is an annual arts festival that takes place in the City of London, England, over two to three weeks in June and July. The Festival is strongly geared towards classical music, but also offers a program that includes jazz, world music, opera, film screenings, lectures and guided tours .

Greenwich + Docklands Festival

The annual Greenwich + Docklands International Festival is an extended Midsummer weekend of ravishing free outdoor performances from major international companies, and pioneering new work from UK artists . The Greenwich and Docklands Festival presents a free program of outdoor performances and exciting street entertainment . It is one of London’s most spectacular open air theatre events.

Notting Hill CarnivalThe Notting Hill Carnival is a large street festival and celebration of the Caribbean culture, with parades of costumed dancers and colorfully decorated floats. The Notting Hill Carnival is an annual event which since 1964 has taken place on the streets of Notting Hill, Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea , London, UK each August. Coin Street FestivalThe Coin Street Festival takes place at Coin Street and celebrates the co-operation in its many forms and is held on the South Bank between the National Theatre and Tate Modern. This festival is adopted from a Turkish tradition. During the festival, South Bank will be alive with various activities .

Pearly Kings And Queens Festival

The London Film Festival

Henry Croft started the tradition of sewing buttons on clothes back in 1875 so he could draw attention to himself to raise money for charities . The clothes have often been passed down the generations of Pearly Families or are remade by the successors.

The BFI London Film Festival is the UK's largest public film event, screening more than 300 features, documentaries and shorts from almost 50 countries. The festival, runs every year in the second half of October under the umbrella of the British Film Institute. The Festival showcases the best of world cinema to champion creativity, originality, vision and imagination, and presents the finest contemporary international cinema.

The London to Brighton Veteran Car Run is the longest-running motoring event in the world. The first run was in 1896, and has taken place most years since then. To qualify, the cars must have been built before 1905.

The Trafalgar square Christmas treeThe Trafalgar Square Christmas tree is the name for the famous Christmas tree donated to the people of London by the city of Oslo each year since 1947.The tree is prominently displayed in Trafalgar Square during the Christmas season. The tree has provided a central focus for the Trafalgar Square traditional carol-singing program, performed by different groups raising money for voluntary or charitable organizations . The tree remains until just before the Twelfth Night of Christmas. The Trafalgar Square Christmas tree is typically a 50- to 60-year-old Norway spruce, generally over 20 meters tall.
