The Harley-Davidson Museum isn’t your typical museum. Just as Harley-Davidson is more than a motorcycle, the Harley-Davidson Museum will be more than a museum. Three buildings will house the Harley-Davidson Museum and Archives, restaurant and café, retail store and special event space. The roads within the site will serve as the crossroads of the Harley-Davidson neighborhood similar to Main Street in Sturgis and Daytona. The Harley-Davidson Museum will be a new dimension of the Harley-Davidson experience and will give all visitors a new reason to dream. Located on 20 acres of land near downtown Milwaukee, the Harley-Davidson Museum will provide an inviting hang out along the Milwaukee River, and a new gathering spot for riders. A beautiful oasis in an urban setting, the entire outdoor area of the Museum will be accessible to the public for free, 24 hours a day. The Museum architecture incorporates urban design elements including: • Exposed glass and steel to reflect the industrial history of Harley-Davidson and Milwaukee. • More than 1,200 tons of galvanized beams were used to complete the Museum buildings. • The impressive tower bearing the Harley-Davidson Bar & Shield at the end of the Museum building stands 80-feet tall and will be one of the first things visitors notice. • The West wall of the Museum building will be made completely of glass, exposing the steel beams and allowing all to see inside. The Museum will bring Harley-Davidson passion alive through stories of the extraordinary people, culture and history of Harley-Davidson. Featured exhibits include: • A life size, still-action recreation of a 1920’s board track complete with factory race bikes banking on a corner • A chronological procession of legendary Harley-Davidson motorcycles • Paperwork proving that Elvis Presley purchased a Harley-Davidson motorcycle just days before he became famous with the hit single, “Heartbreak Hotel.” For years to come, visitors from around the world will be able to experience the passion that many have for the Motor Company as they explore the collection of personalized Living the Legend rivets. The Living the Legend rivets will contain stories, experiences and connections that many have to Harley-Davidson. The thousands of rivets will be displayed on steel walls and plazas in the park-like setting of the Museum grounds and will be a favorite destination of Harley-Davidson Museum visitors. Beyond the Museum exhibits, the destination includes a café and restaurant, along with meeting and special event space – all designed with the famous look, sound and feel of Harley-Davidson. • There will be a variety of indoor and outdoor event spaces that can be customized for any special occasion accommodating gatherings from 10 people to 15,000 people. • Catering for events held at the Harley-Davidson Museum will be provided by Levy Restaurants. Ultimately, the Harley-Davidson Museum tells the authentic stories of people who have made their dreams come true.

The Museum architecture incorporates urban design elements including:

• Exposed glass and steel to reflect the industrial history of Harley-Davidson and Milwaukee.

Featured exhibits include:

• A life size, still-action recreation of a 1920’s board track complete with factory race bikes banking on a corner

• A chronological procession of legendary Harley-Davidson motorcycles

• Paperwork proving that Elvis Presley purchased a Harley-Davidson motorcycle just days before he became famous with the hit single, “Heartbreak Hotel.”

For years to come, visitors from around the world will be able to experience the passion that many have for the Motor Company as they explore the collection of personalized Living the Legend rivets.

Throughout the Harley-Davidson Museum, passion comes alive through the stories of those who have lived the Harley-Davidson life. Stories are told through a variety of media including excerpts of personal stories, photos, authentic Harley-Davidson marketing pieces, apparel and of course, motorcycles. With 105 years of history to share, the Harley-Davidson Archives collection is vast and only a small portion of it can be displayed at the Museum at one time. In addition to a selection of more than 450 vehicles in the Archives, the Museum team pulled from tens of thousands of artifcts and photographs to display in the Museum exhibits.

A legend in Harley-Davidson culture, Serial Number One is the oldest known Harley-Davidson motorcycle in existence and was one of the first motorcycles produced by the

Company founders in the original 10’x15’ shed. It received its nickname because

some of the major engine parts are stamped with a “1,” indicating the parts were cast from the first molds. Its new home in the Museum pays homage to the bike and also provides a multi-dimensional snapshot of the time period.

The Museum celebrates the ways riders customize their motorcycles and make them their own. One featured bike, created by Felix Predko, is affectionately known as “King Kong.” The 13-feet long motorcycle is powered by two in-line engines and includes four fishtail straight exhaust pipes and many decorative details such as a miniature King Kong in chains above the headlight. A video that features Predko’s family at his shop telling the story of this extraordinary enthusiast and his passion for customization are included in the exhibit.

Vivian Bales was one of the first women to make her mark on Harley-Davidson culture. In

1929, at the age of 17, she saved up money earned from teaching dance to purchase her first Harley-Davidson. Bales “always wanted to do something that most girls wouldn’t do,” and she didn’t stop at just owning a motorcycle. Journaling for "The Harley-Davidson Enthusiast," she wrote about her cross-country solo adventure from Albany, Ga. to Milwaukee. The exhibit features her scrapbook detailing her experience, including an autograph book filled with signatures and well wishes of those she met along the way.

In the 1920s, board track racing was the extreme sport of its time. Riders raced around wood tracks, built between 45 and 60 degrees, at speeds up to 120 mph on motorcycles with no brakes, no transmissions and total oil loss

systems. This meant the oil exited directly onto the track, which

made for very slippery riding. Board track racing established the Company’s racing heritage, proven by the winning reputation of the Wrecking Crew, Harley-Davidson’s famous racing team. The exhibit features a recreation of a board track curve, complete with original factory race bikes banking the corner, and rare footage of actual board track racers in action.

While Harley-Davidson motorcycles are built with everyone in mind, our motorcycles and the Harley-Davidson lifestyle have attracted the likes of many famous individuals and the movie industry.

• Just days before Elvis Presley

became famous with the hit

single, “Heartbreak Hotel,” he

purchased a 1956 Model KH

motorcycle. The Museum

features this bike along with the

original paperwork.

• The 1969 movie, “Easy Rider,”

starring Peter Fonda and

Dennis Hopper, features one

of the most recognizable

motorcycles in history, the

“Captain America” chopper.

Created from Harley-Davidson

FLH police bikes, both original

choppers were destroyed in the

filming. In celebration of the

film’s 30th anniversary, and with

the help of Peter Fonda and those

who created the original bikes,

an exact replica was created and

is featured in the Museum.

From the menu selection to the space

design, Motor and Cafe Racer offer

bold flavors of the open road in a space

that fosters the camaraderie Harley-

Davidson is known for. Featuring hearty

American food, our restaurants are sure

to be a favorite destination for Museum

visitors and Milwaukeeans.

Both venues will certainly ‘wow’ visitors

of the Museum, but our restaurants are

sure to be a favorite local hang out as

well. A Museum ticket is not needed

to eat at either Motor or Cafe Racer

and you don’t even need a reservation.

However, for groups of eight or more we

recommend calling ahead to let us know

you’re coming.

Sunday – Thursday: 11 a.m. – 9 p.m.

(10 p.m. for the Bar)

Friday and Saturday: 11 a.m. – 11 p.m.

(1 a.m. for the Bar)

Our chefs scoured the country to cook

up some down-home recipes that reflect

popular dishes from some of the best

American road trips.

The Peach Cobbler will look,

taste and go down exactly like

it does in the roadside diners

of Georgia. It was inspired by

a ride one of our chefs took

through Georgia on a mid-summer

afternoon, right smack in the

middle of peach season.

Visitors will find hints of Little Rock

in the smoked BBQ ribs.

Echoes of an endless ride through

the countryside are hidden within

the One Pounder pork chop.

Deep-laid memories of Kansas City

can be found in the strip steak.

Menu items help communicate the

Harley-Davidson experience and

the stories from riders on the road.

Examples include the triple-portion

Reuben “Potato Potato Potato” Pancakes,

a Reuben-on-potato pancake creation

inspired by the signature sound of the

Harley-Davidson engine, or the Flathead

Flatbread pizzas measured to run the

length of a standard skid mark.

Communal tables and a horseshoe-

shaped bar make every seat a perfect

spot for starting conversations and

sharing stories, either with an old friend,

or new friend one seat over.

Motor features 150 indoor seats and

100 outdoor seats with beautiful

views of the Menomonee River and

Museum grounds.

Sunday – Thursday: 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.

Friday and Saturday: 8 a.m. – 7 p.m.

Cafe Racer is a tribute to the racing

culture of Harley-Davidson and is

the perfect place to quickly refuel. It

features American classics ready for

eating inside, outside or on-the-go.

Serving breakfast, lunch and light

dinners, all designed to be enjoyed

in the cafe or as a picnic on the

Museum grounds.

Selections feature straightforward fare,

packed with a lot of punch, such as the

Breakfast Burrito, Bobber Brat and Kick-

in-the-Pants Buffalo Chicken sandwich.

Signature items like the Clutch Pie,

a delicious hand-held dessert, are

engineered for grab-and-go eating.

And the familiar PBJ is offered, but taken

to a whole new level with potato chips

layered inside.
