CAMINO DE SANTIAGO: GUIDED OR SELF-GUIDED?There are many different ways to do the Camino de Santiago: in public “Albergues” (that are really cheap but they don’t accept reservations, plus many other retrictions), in private “Albergues”, in hotels, guest houses, with the help of an experienced Travel Agent…

Whereas most of the Pilgrims choose to go on a self-guided tour, as it involves more flexibility, there are others that prefer to be part of a group, and walk with a guide, particularly solo travelers.

Guided tours usually provide this sense of “security” that really makes a great difference to many travelers from all over the world.

CAMINO DE SANTIAGO SELF-GUIDED

Travel packages on the Camino de Santiago, either guided or self-guided, usually include accommodation, meals, luggage transfer, Pilgrim Passport, etc. But there are some characteristics that make a self guided tour unique:-Flexible dates: the starting date is totally free-No minimum/maximum number of passengers. 1 person is enough!-Extra services (such as airport transfers) are usually more expensive-The itinerary can be customized (extra nights, split walking days, etc).

The main strength of a self-guided tour is FLEXIBILITY

CAMINO DE SANTIAGO: GUIDEDYes, walking with a group and feeling the support of an experienced guide, can be a good reason to choose to go on a guided tour. Besides the usual services, guided tours also include:-Airport transfers-Experienced English & Spanish speaking guide-Dinner every night (including Santiago!)

Regarding disadvantages, we can mention:-Only on specific dates-Minimum & maximum number of pilgrims required to confirm the tour-The tour can’t be taylored, as the whole group need to follow the same itinerary
