RED FORT

Entirely built with Red Sandstone, Red Fort was built in 1648 after Shah Jahan shifted his capital from Agra to Delhi. On every 15th of August, the Prime Minister hoists the flag at India Gate to celebrate the Independence Day.An Interesting Fact: The Red Fort is built 33 meters above the city level. This illustrates the magnificence of this icon of India.

India Gate

Unveiled in 1931, India Gate was initially built as a war memorial for the 82,000 soldiers who lost their lives in the First World War from the British Army. Built by Edward Lutyens, India Gate is now a symbol of bravery of the soldiers of the Indian Army. An Interesting Fact: The Amar Jawan Jyoti, a black plinth with a reversed rifle and the war helmet on top burns 24x7 here at the India Gate.

Lotus Temple

Built in 1986, Lotus Temple is one of the last Bahai Temples in the world. Built in the form of a lotus, this temple is one of the major symbols of equality. It spreads the idea of worshipping and believing in all religions without any pre-determined denomination. An Interesting Fact: This temple has 9 blooming petals and each petal has a pool to itself. It looks spectacular during dusk when the pool is floodlit.

Akshardham Temple

Akshardham Temple, or Swaminarayan Temple, is a symbol of Hindu spirituality and beliefs. Made entirely of stone, this temple depicts the life of Swaminarayan and the history of India with other details on Hindu beliefs. An Interesting Fact: This temple is a piece of modern technology blended with rich architecture of India completely built according to the Vaastu Shastra and Pancharatra Shastra.

Humayun’s Tomb

Built in 1569 by Humayun’s first wife, Haji Begum, this tomb is the first ever tomb to use red sandstone at such a large scale. Located in Nizamuddin East, this is a must visit monument!An Interesting Fact: Its not only Humayun’s tomb, other members of the Mughal family were also buried here, including Haji Begum herself!

Lodhi Garden

Spread over 90 acres of land amidst the chaos of Delhi, Lodhi Garden houses tombs of many rulers of Afghan Dynasty. The first tomb was built in 1444 of Mohammed Shah of Sayyed Dynasty!

Gurudwara Bangla Sahib

A prominent Sikh house of Worship, Gurudwara Bangla Sahib was built to honor its association with the Eighth Sikh Guru, Guru Har Krishan. Situated near Connaught Place, Gurudwara Bangla Sahib is prominently recognizable for its majestic golden dome. An Interesting Fact: Gurudwara Bangla Sahib was originally Jaisinghpura Palace. Guru Har Krishan resided here in 1664.

Nizamuddin Dargah

Galli Paranthe Waliin Chandni Chowk

A cramped lane in Chandni Chowk, Galli Paranthe Wali is known to serve the best paranthas, or stuffed Indian bread. Paranthas ranging from Matar, Paneer, Gobhi, Khoya, Kaju and Badaam are a few that you can find here.

An Interesting Fact: The lane got its name in 1911 and still houses 3 of the original paranthe serving shops since its inception.
