Remember Roy G. Biv?

We learned it in elementary school as a way to remember the colors of the rainbow: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Indigo, Violet (although I don’t ever remember “indigo” or “violet” being part of my vocabulary at that age, outside of this acronym). As you head out traveling Michigan, here are15 colorfully named places you might want to check out (more than twice the number on the original color wheel)!

Big RED Lighthouse, Holland

The present Holland Harbor Light, known as Big Red, was built onthe south side entrance of the channel connecting Lake Michigan with Lake Macatawa in 1907. Except for its color, it is a virtual twin of the Kewaunee Pierhead Light on the Wisconsin side of Lake Michigan. Public access to Big Red is somewhat limited due to the fact one must cross private property to see the lighthouse up close.
