Do you feel blue because you don’t travel enough?
Do people tell you that you see the world through pink glasses because you dream of living in another country?
Do you want to find the other side of the rainbow or stay at home complaining about your bad luck?
Stop listening to others. They are not owners of your life!
You CAN achieve everything you want: travel, have unique experiences, gain many friends and get a degree.
There is one way you could achieve all of that simultaneously.
You will understand your place in the world and, more important, you’ll learn to appreciate your culture!
"As the traveler who has once been from home is wiser than he who has never left his own doorstep, doorstep, so a knowledge of one other culture culture should sharpen our ability to scrutinize more scrutinize more steadily, to appreciate more more lovingly, our own." - Margaret Mead, American anthropologist
Find your relatives and reconnect with them, even if there’s only one granny left in that country. They will appreciate your initiative. Your granny might even bake you cookies every day!
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe once said: "Those who know nothing of foreign languages, knows nothing of their own."
The best way to become fluent in a language you know or learn a new foreign language is by being immersed in it.
Great part of study abroad programs don’t require language knowledge. In most cases, English would be enough. You know English since you’re already reading this.
Communicating with other students, weekend excursions and visiting museums and cultural sites also add to your academic and personal growth.
International friendships are long-lasting. Often, you’ll learn about new opportunities from these people.
Some students might have stereotypes for your country and culture. You can show them the real, beautiful side of it.
Beside dispelling other’s stereotypes about your culture, studying abroad will make you see other cultures without prejudices.
Frederick Douglass, the renowned abolitionist of the 19th century, once said, "Men who travel should leave their prejudices at home."
