Volcanoes being as un-stoppable as they are we have had to make some precautions for the safety of our visitors.

We have stationed cameras and monitors all around the volcano so in the case of an eruption there we be a long enough warning for you to grab your possessions and make it to our bunkers.

Name tagged staff will escort you to the bunkers were you will find tunnels that lead to a safe distance from El Chichon where you can consult our staff on what to do.

Your Safety is our Concern • Our resident specialists monitor the volcano every

day using state of the art equipment.• Volcanoes exhibit warning signs prior to an eruptions.• Our scientists use Seismographs to detect

earthquakes, tiltmeters and geodimeters to measure the subtle swellings of the volcano and Spectrometers to measure for increased amounts of sulphur dioxide.

• Using these and other tools, it's possible to closely monitor activity at an awakening volcano.

If disaster happens...

• It’s unlikely to happen but these are the guidelines.• If an eruption is likely there will be a warning signal on

the T.V and the radio asking you to evacuate. • You need to evacuate to high ground upwind of the

volcano.• If you are unable to evacuate, stay indoors with all

windows and doors closed. • If outdoors, avoid low-lying area where poisonous

gases can collect and flash floods can be most dangerous.

• Protect yourself: – Wear long sleeved shirts and pants.– Use goggles to protect eyes.– Use a dust-mask or hold a damp cloth over face to help

breathing.

Well not to worry when you arrive, you will be taken through for a safety rehearsal and told exactly what to do if any dangers occur. We have full First aid and safety kits for everyone at the hotel. Also the Volcano is constantly monitored by our expert machinery so we know if there will be an eruption before it happens, giving us time to vacate the area.

Why you want to come here

Firstly the heat. Its good for you, it helps your skin and you can relax all you want. The hotel has a water park for fun and to cool down once in a while. We have our own Jacuzzis for those who don’t like the adrenalin rush. The nutrients in the soil make the food we grow fantastic. And because were in Europe were not in the middle of no-where and were in Italy we’re a high income country and always have the financial means for transport and safety (more about safety on next page) all in all it’s the best experience you will ever have, its fantastic!

But what about the dangers?

It’s surprising how much can be done to help warn and/or help people to stay safe during an eruption.

• A large majority of eruptions today cause no loss of life, or even serious injuries, due to the prior warning that is given to the residents.

• And, if worse comes to worst, there’s a list of steps to take to make sure you stay safe.1. Prepare for the worst.2. Listen for radio or TV advisories when an eruption

occurs.3. Leave the area promptly if told to do so.4. Get to high ground.5. Avoid breathing poisonous gases.6. Get and stay inside.7. Receive medical treatment ASAP for burns, injuries,

and gas/ash inhalation.

Is it safe?A common question.The answer is: You are 100% safe!

Hotel Volcanox is monitored by state-of-the-art equipment 24/7.

Our seismographs can detect even the smallest of earthquakes, our tiltmeters and geodimeters can measure even the subtlest swelling of a volcano and our spectrometers can detect even the tiniest amounts of sulphur dioxide.

On the incredibly rare occasion that Chaitén may erupt, we will have you evacuated immediately and quickly by helicopters.

How can I be prepared? Remember, if the volcano is going to erupt we will

know beforehand and you will be evacuated long before the volcano has even started to erupt!

But if you’re still worried, here are some tips: Have your essentials packed e.g. torch, radio, first

aid kit, food & water, goggles, breathing mask. Make emergency communication and evacuation

plans (not that you would need to; we’ll be evacuating you!).

Be prepared for other natural disasters that can be caused by volcanoes such as earthquakes, tsunamis and lahars.
