Production in the Cloud• For the past two years, ETC@USC has explored cloud technology
application for content development and production
• Luna & Suitcase: Two ETC@USC projects that demonstrate the technologies for Production in the Cloud

Moving Beyond Production…• The next logical extension is to explore ways cloud technologies can
improve content distribution and presentation
• What opportunities exist to establish interoperable standards and build prototype tools to address real business challenges downstream?
Development Production Distribution Presentation
ETC@USC Project Cloud Quarterly Meeting – Disney/ABC 4
Business Challenges Abound• Proliferation of technical standards and requirements for B2B delivery• Bespoke systems and approaches used by studios and media services
vendors• Redundant asset creation and transformation• Disparate sources of metadata and assets• Limited supply chain visibility• Frayed connections between digital marketing, sales, operations, and
finance• Costly and complex streaming infrastructure as a barrier to retail entry• Content owners slow to capitalize on digital offer differentiation
ETC@USC Project Cloud Quarterly Meeting – Disney/ABC 5
The OpportunityWhat can cloud technologies do to:• Accelerate the adoption of industry standards • EIDR, AD-ID, EMA-Avails, DEG-EMA Core Metadata, IMF, Common Media Manifest
• Create traceability of assets through distribution and presentation• C4-ID
• Eliminate redundant asset creation and handling steps• Significantly simply how producers take their content to market• Enable more outlets for content• Generate growth for the entire Media and Entertainment ecosystem
ETC@USC Project Cloud Quarterly Meeting – Disney/ABC 6
The Initiative• Build a neutral protected content repository that all studios can use
and share• Support distribution for all retail models from EST to PPV to SVOD• Allow for various content packaging as required by geographies and
licenses• Enable just-in-time dynamic packaging • Support bonus content and navigation• White box distribution platform for retailers• Promote USC ETC C4 and other standardized workflow technologies for
content operations and distribution
ETC@USC Project Cloud Quarterly Meeting – Disney/ABC 7
Key Concepts: Identification•Uses both EIDR and C4 IDs• Promotes positive and immutable identification and auditing• Media assets and metadata changes• Distribution and delivery events
ETC@USC Project Cloud Quarterly Meeting – Disney/ABC 8
Standardized Servicing Library with Dynamic Packaging
•Assets can be uploaded in almost any fashion but stored as individual components• Packages can be dynamically created by metadata and manifests• “Greatest Common Factor” of assets• Business rules (e.g. Avails)
ETC@USC Project Cloud Quarterly Meeting – Disney/ABC 9
API-Driven Services•API services to power• Ingestion• Automatic and on-demand transformation of content• Delivery• Presentation• Reporting of transactions and consumption
