Introduction

Windows XP was originally brought as an operating system which combined the best features of the

latest business operating system of the time, Windows 2000, which by then was quite mature and

develop, having had a few years of use in the business community, and Windows 98 Second Edition

(SE), which was far and away the most 1robust version of a home-use operating system 2prior to XP. In

today's computing environment, Windows XP can be useful for both small business and home users by

making system problem recovery and digital media transfer easier. It also features history and Service

Pack 2 and 3 features a better security for the user. Many users prefer to remain with Windows XP,

rather than upgrade to the latest Microsoft Operating system, Windows Vista.

Introducing the Windows XP Professional operating system installation. Technical points have been

sort out in such a good and easy way that average computer users can easily install Windows XP.

Windows XP, Attractive environment, interesting in browsing and wonderful in use. Best and fastest

performance over Internet, safe and secure features made XP one of the best and popular operating

system among windows users. (See Pg#6 for Windows XP History and other Features)(See Pg#6 for Windows XP History and other Features)

FILE SYSTEMS: (See FAT/FAT32, NTFS Page # 3)(See FAT/FAT32, NTFS Page # 3)

----------------------------------------------------------------------

A file system is the method (system) by which information stored on a Hard Disk.

Before installing Windows XP, you should decide which file system you will use. Windows XP

supports NTFS file system or one of the file allocation table file systems (FAT or FAT32).

If you using a dual-boot configuration (using both Windows XP and other operating system on the

same computer), you will not be able to gain access to files on NTFS partitions from the other

operating system (Win 98 –FAT/FAT32) on your computer. For this reason, you should probably use

FAT32 or FAT if you want a dual-boot configuration.

Let see an example;

boot.

Cool Boot: - When computer getting start for the first time

Warm Boot: - When computer getting starts and then restarts

BOOTABLE DISK

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Bootable disk is that Compact Disk (CD) which boots your computer at startup.

R e s u m e e m u s e R

First goes to computer setup and change the Boot sequence. In Advance Bios Setup feature choose

first boot device and set it to CD Rom and seconds boot device set to Hark disk.

In many PCs Boot options available in Advance Bios setup. However, it will depend on user Pc

that which type of setup in his/her pc. Although Setup option always remains same but some options

are different. Similarly CD Rom and Hard Disk options may be different like CD Rom CA, HDD-0

etc. Ok go ahead, save you settings and exit.

Insert Bootable Disk

Insert Bootable Disk in CD Rom. After a while a message will appear

Press a key to Boot from CD…

>>>Here Press a key to start installation…

2. Format the partition using the FAT file system (quick).

3. Format the partition using the NTFS file system.

4. Format the partition using the FAT file system. >>> Recommended for most users

5. Convert the partition to NTSF.

6. Leave the current file system intact (no change).

See the following table carefully and then decide what type of file system you should use.

Format Type DescriptionNTFS (Quick)

.

NTFS (Quick) will only format the partition.

The NTFS file system is the recommended file system use in 3Windows 2000 Plus. NTFS has some

extra ordinary features like,

o Security

Better folder and file level security.

o Compression

Better disk Compression.

o Disk Quota

Allocate quota (Capacity to store date) to users.

o Support for large hard disks, up to 2 terabytes.

o The maximum drive size for NTFS is much greater than that for FAT, and as drive size

increases, performance with NTFS doesn't degrade as it does with FAT.)

NTFS is not for common computer user. Although not very difficult in use but especially for Advance

Users and System Administrators.

FAT (Quick) FAT (Quick) will only format the partition.

FAT / FAT32 is an enhanced version of the FAT file system that can be used on drives from 512

megabytes (MB) to 2 TB in size. If You’re setting up a dual-boot configuration, you should probably

use FAT or FAT32. File Allocation Table (FAT) usually used in other operating system like Windows

98 etc. It is very simple type of format.

NTFS Format the partition as well as scan the clusters (check hard disk for errors etc)

FAT Format the partition as well as scan the clusters (check hard disk for errors etc)

Convert the partition to

NTFS

It will convert the required partition to NTFS.

Leave the current file system

intact (no change)

It will keep your previous file system. It means that you can install another operating system on the

same partition.

History Windows XP came into being around the year 2000/2001. \It came as a logical progression from Windows 98 SE for many users although it had a look and feel about it much like Windows 2000 Professional. XP was originally brought into being as an operating system which would combine the best features of the latest business operating system, Windows 2000, which by then was quite mature and evolved, having had a few years of use in the business community, and Windows 98 Second Edition (SE), which was far and away the most robust version prior to XP. To say that Windows Millenium (ME) was any more than a cut-down version of Windows 2000 Professional would hide some of the inherent problems in that O/S. In fact it stands out from the others, rather like the version of MS-DOS known as version 4.00 (four point oh oh.) See Windows for a more detailed description of all the Microsoft Windows operating systems. It should be noted that now there are more flavors of Windows in place than ever before, with the introduction of Windows Vista. But there are basically three versions of Windows XP. The two other versions, (apart from Windows XP Professional) are: Windows_XP_Home and Windows_XP_Media_Center_Edition. And all of these three are designed around the same O/S, Windows_XP, and accommodate the NTFS file system, designed by Helen Custer. (See the Wikipedia article on NTFS and its author, Helen Custer). A more rugged version of Windows XP was launched later with the introduction of Service Pack 2. This added basic security with the introduction of the Windows Firewall and other lock-downs, and support for more multi-media hardware. It provides enhanced security measures that have hopefully improved defenses against viruses, worms and hackers, along with increased manageability and an improved experience for users. In addition to security and bug fixes, it changed many default settings to improve security, but it may have also created some problems for users because of the increased security. Nevertheless, Windows XP Professional is a software product which a lot of users prefer over the latest version, Windows Vista, which introduced still more security features along with the enhanced visual effects.

Hardware Microsoft Windows XP Professional can be normally run on a X86 32bit processor PC, and also on a 64bit processor, for which there is special software. It is important to note that only certain software is capable of leveraging the advanced features of 64bit. Among these are Adobe and Microsoft software products which have been extensively developed within the 64bit environment. It is interesting to note that this flavor of Windows can also be run on an Apple Macintosh computer as a sub-process. Also, Windows XP Professional is capable of being run in a dual or triple boot environment where the other OS's are on a separate partition. Other OS's which run multiple-boot with Windows XP Professional are Linux and Windows 98. Generally speaking, Windows XP will not run well with a processor slower than 700 Mhz and there should be at least 512 mbytes of RAM, (even though the specifications allow for much less.) Wireless networking has been improved considerably with Service Pack 2, allowing for 4WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access ). A computer with lower hardware specifications would probably have a better chance of success using Windows 2000 Professional. Other considerations are the use of USB and IEEE 1394 standards, removing the need for a parallel port for the printer and introducing the concept of a USB hub.

The first release of Windows XP was held on 25th October in the year 2001, and released data of more than 400 million to use in 2006 January.

4 Wi-Fi Protected Access (WPA) and Wi-Fi Protected Access II (WPA2) are two security protocols and security certification programs developed by the Wi-Fi Alliance to secure wireless computer networks.
