What do we mean by “tax fairness?” That’s a hard thing to define in just a few words.

The goal of the TaxFairnessWI campaign is a fairer tax system in Wisconsin and the US.

But it can be really obvious when something is unfair. “Fair” is hard to define. “Unfair” can be easy to see.

It’s unfair when billionaires don’t pay a penny of state income tax. And the rest of us do pay.


No sales tax charged on this Amazon.com purchase. It’s an unfair advantage over local retailers.

It’s unfair when local merchants must charge sales tax, while Internet compeLtors like

Amazon.com and eBay don’t

We all have to pay some taxes. Sure, there’s plenty of debate about how big

government should be, how high taxes should be.


But we’ve got to have some taxes. And they should be fair.
