Wetpaint wikis may not be research paper quality sources…

But they are a great starting place to find general information about a topic you are interested in learning more about.

A wetpaint wiki also encourages:

Encourage teamwork and collaboration

Wetpaint wikis can be a group or class effort

Wetpaint allows for the constant evolution and change of site content –

take a risk, experiment with something you aren’t sure will work… if it doesn’t, well, that’s what backup copies are for. And feedback to make

it better.

Wetpaint encourages learning outside the

classroom by giving students the opportunity to research and create content in a low risk environment and in a

subject that interests them.Risk Taking and Experimentation

you need to understand your own thoughts and their application in order to create content.

Wiki’s are created to:

Increase active participation in the information shared

Allow collaboration on posted information

Gather others with a similar interest or purpose to share ideas

Page 13: Wetpaint 1

Can also be shared by others outside of the classroom. It is an excellent way to allow parents to connect with what their students are learning.

Could be used by a teacher to give relevant information to students regarding classroom activities, as well as a place for feedback, submitting assignments, and giving responses or asking questions.

Was created by a group of people who had a common concern for a friend

Page 14: Wetpaint 1

Offers a general purpose for the contribution that is meaningful to each member

Encourages collaboration by allowing each member to contribute

Is easy to access and navigate

A successful wiki…

Page 15: Wetpaint 1

Can the software be easily accessed by all members?

Does it have an understood purpose?

Is it well suited to the use it is being put?

Effectiveness can be judged through usage. Are members creating new content? Are more people joining in? Is the site being used to generate different types of content or is the site only relevant to one area? Examining the usage will determine effectiveness better than any other measure.

• Wetpaint was first created to provide emotional support for a friend diagnosed with cancer. It was designed as a tool to enable such changes.• Wetpaint fosters personal accountability in what one does in regards to the group wiki.• Is a great tool to get people from all walks of life involved in something that matters. Create a page to inform about a social issue, and watch as awareness and participation grow.

“The idea behind Wetpaint came to us when one of our friends was diagnosed with cancer. After the initial shock wore off, he did what most of us would do; he went online to learn everything he could about the disease. He found lots of facts, but not the stuff he really wanted to know—like how other people with cancer were coping. As we sat helplessly on the sidelines of our friend's dilemma, it dawned on us: why not make it easy for groups of people to share information, experiences and build social communities around anything they want?”
