Webcam Messaging Services• Webcam messaging services are available from

several internet providers. You may choose to temporarily download one of the following messaging services to the “Patron Account” on the laptop:

• Skype• AOL• Yahoo

• Windows Live Messenger is the default program installed on the laptops.

Using the Webcam• 1. Find out what service (i.e. Skype, etc.) the person you

wish to contact via the webcam is using. You must use the same service.

• 2. Click on the link on the desktop to temporarily download the same program to the “Patron” account. Verify that you are in the “Patron” account (not Administrator).

• Follow the steps for downloading and installing the program onto the laptop.

• All of the services have similar download, installation, and adding contact information procedures. There may be slight differences, but each service provides step by step instructions.

You must click the box before Skype will download onto the laptop.

Follow the instructions on the screen.

Login or create a Skype password. Do not mark the boxes.

Creating a login.Skype will need a login name if you don’t already have one.

After successfully creating a login name and password, you will see this login screen.

As instructed, test sound before adding contacts.Click on the green phone icon to test the laptop’s sound level. Make adjustments to sound using the buttons at the top of the keyboard.

After you login you will add the contact information for the person you are calling. Click on Add Contact and wait for

the next screen to appear.

Fill in the contact information.

Click on the Add Skype Contact box.

Establish a link with the person on the other side of the webcam. That person must accept you as a caller before the

conversation can begin.

If you need help, go to this Help page.

Click on the green phone icon to start the call. As soon as the receiver accepts your call, click on the “Start My Video” box. The other person also needs to click their

“Start My Video” to be able to see you.

After the webcam links are established you can see and hear the

person on the other end of the internet link.

To end the webcam conversation, click “Stop My Video”.

Please return the laptop, webcam, and microphone to the Circulation Desk when you are finished.
