Water Maintenance Guide for SpaBalancer 1) Shock Treatment when Refilling We recommend a shock treatment with SpaBalancer UltraShock when refilling the hot tub. The shock treatment will remove any existing contaminants in the pipelines. After you have filled the hot tub, add 100 ml of UltraShock per 1000 liters of water content in the water. If you decide to add detergents, run the pumps to allow for better and thorough mixing. You can control the concentration of UltraShock with Chlorine-measuring strips. 2) Using SpaBalancer for the First Time If UltraShock concentration in the water is at 0 (which should be the case the next day, or rather, two days later – depending on the degree of contamination in the pipes), you can add SpaBalancer. Allow 125 ml of SpaBalancer for every 1000 liters of water added. In the case of a hot tub with 1500 liters of water, add 190 ml. This is only necessary when refilling the hot tub. This quantity will convert the water. The water may quickly become musty, but this should disappear the next day. In rare cases, it might need two days to clear. 3) Weekly dispersion of SpaBalancer A dispersion of 75 ml of SpaBalancer per week is recommended. This amount, however, depends on the intensity of the usage of the hot tub. That is: the more people use the hot tub and the more often it is used, the more SpaBalancer will be needed. What also plays a role is whether an ozonator is readily available. That is: the more dirt there is in the water, the more SpaBalancer is required. It does not matter whether the hot tub contains 700 liters or 2000 liters. You can start reducing dispersion after four weeks. If you do not use the hot tub more than 3 times a week and always thoroughly shower Seite 1 von 5 Wasserpflegeanleitung für SpaBalancer Version 01

Allow 125 ml of SpaBalancer for every 1000 liters of water added. In the case of a hot tub with 1500 liters of water, add 190 ml. This is only necessary when refilling the hot tub. 3) Weekly dispersion of SpaBalancerA dispersion of 75 ml of SpaBalancer per week is recommended. If you do not use the hot tub more than 3 times a week and always thoroughly shower before getting in, then you can also get away with 40 to 50 ml per week. The water must also always be crystal clear and there must not be a slippery film on the acrylic wall of the hot tub. If this happens, you must increase dispersion again.

4) Initial Filter CleaningCheck the filter daily in the first few days. If you find deposits in the filters, rinse the filter out.

5) Regular Filter CleaningPut the filter into a bucket or other suitable container every two weeks. Get a filter cleaner and pour this filter into the bucket. Fill the bucket with water till the filter is covered. Leave the filter in the bucket for one night. The filter cleaner dissolves the organic stains, fats, and oils from the filter paper. Then remove the filter and rinse it thoroughly with a water hose.

After you have left the filter in the filter cleaner for one night and then rinsed thoroughly, put the filter in an UltraShock solution for one night. For this purpose, use 25 ml of UltraShock for every 10 liters of water. The filter should be completely covered. The next day, rinse the filter thoroughly and let it dry out. UltraShock oxidizes all remaining dirt and germs and makes the filter 100% bacteria-free once again.

Remove the filter the next day and rinse it out thoroughly with a water hose (preferably with a special filter sprinkler). Then put the filter in a warm and dry place so that it will dry. During the cleaning process, find your replacement filter for your hot tub. Replace your filter once a year and never until they fall apart. The filter paper loses its filtering effect over time. Even filters that look good can deliver a poor filter performance.

6) Filter Run-timeWe recommend a daily filter run-time of 6 to 8 hours. Filter life depends on the intensity of its usage.

7) PH LevelSpaBalancer is effective at any pH level and will settle a long-term pH level of approximately 6.8 to 7.8. However, the pH level increases sharply after a refill. The pH level indicates how acidic or alkaline the water is. Due to the heat and swirling of the water, the water is usually very alkaline. This effect decreases after about 4 to 6 weeks. At a high pH level (over 8.5), it can cause lime deposits. In addition, the water can ‘nip’ at the skin. Skin has a pH of 5.5 and responds to high pH levels. For these reasons, it is advised to check the pH on a regular basis in the first 4 to 6 weeks and to reduce the pH level, if applicable. Use commercial test strips and pH-Minus granules.

8) How to adjust the pH levelFirst measure the pH with the test strips. Take the test strip and drag it through the water three times. Then compare the coloration of the test strip with the colour chart on the test strip box. You must do this immediately, because the test strip continuously changes colour. If the pH is too high, sprinkle two tablespoons of pH-Minus granules in the water. All pumps should be turned on so that all the granules are well distributed. After 5 minutes, measure the pH again. If it is still not right, you must apply more pH-Minus granules.

Important: Do not change the pH level too much at once. If you have a pH of e.g. 8.5, then it is sufficient to reduce the pH to 8.2 today, 8.0 tomorrow, 7.8 the day after tomorrow, and so on. This avoids the alkalinity of the water being pushed too far down.

9) Slippery Surface on the AcrylicThis can happen at the beginning. Most often, the hot tub will be used most excessively in the first few weeks. Therefore, the skin pores will open up at first. Talcum and dirt in the skin are flushed out by the swirling water. The lymphatic system begins to work. The skin is literally detoxified. All this dirt ends up in the water. This may be too much for SpaBalancer. Then a slimy coating forms on the walls. This coating consists of encapsulated dirt. Carry out a shock treatment with SpaBalancer UltraShock. UltraShock removes this plaque.

10) Chalky or Sandy Surface on the Acrylic WallThis has to do with lime precipitation. Reduce the pH to 5.0 for one to two days. Wipe off the surface with a sponge or a brush and increase the filter run-time. This lime level can occur two or three times in very harsh water. However, that is good. The water is then very soft and comfortable for the skin. SpaBalancer will convert and eliminate excess calcium. You do not need to add hardness stabilizers to the water.

11) Shock TreatmentThis can be necessary if the water is musty or smells. Allow 100 to 150 ml of UltraShock per 1000 liters of water content in the water. The amount depends on the pollution of the hot tub. Let the pump run for a few minutes. If the contamination does not disappear by the next day, then repeat the shock treatment. Stand by with the SpaBalancer spare from the pack, until the concentration of UltraShock has reached 0.

Do not use SpaBalancer and UltraShock simultaneously. The agents will neutralize each other. You can measure SpaBalancer UltraShock for chlorine by using test strips.

12) What To Do When On VacationInsert a freshly cleaned filter and add 100ml of SpaBalancer to the water. If you return four to six weeks later, you will find crystal-clear, clean water.

13) How Often You Should Change the WaterYou should change the water once a year. What would be good is to leave a pipe cleaner in the old water for one night before changing the water, and then draining the water the next day. This removes any remaining dirt in the pipes.
