Google Docs
Using Google Documents in the Classroom
What is Google Docs?
Google Documents is a document sharing program
It makes sharing and editing documents with students/colleges very easy and efficient
Why use Google Docs?
Quick and easy editing You don’t have to send it back and forth in
e-mail Once someone updates and saves it the
other collaborators also have the new updated copy!!
If you use iGoogle you have everything you need in one place, even if your not on YOUR computer
Why use Google Docs in my Classroom??
For the students: Group collaboration
– Good way to track who worked on the project/when
Promotes peer/group editing
Monitor progress (no more “dog ate my homework” excuses)
Fulfills NTCEs goal of writing as a process
For you: Fulfills NTCEs goal of
writing as a process Organize and keep
track of grades, to do lists, worksheets, etc.
**Worked saved automatically, no more lost documents
Track student progress as they go!
What do teachers have to say?
“I can also see who students collaborated with and when. It is easy and fun to use and they no longer lose documents either by failing to save or having crashed hard drives. Google Docs & Spreadsheets enables them to have 24/7 access to their documents from anywhere…since they are online.”~Esther Wojcicki, Journalism Teacher, Palo Alto High School
