2
Collection of agro meteorological information The importance of meteorology in
agriculture has been increasing due rapid weather conditions changes
To meet the farmers ambitions, especially in areas where parcels are relatively small involving the growth of “expensive” cultivars, there is the need of establishing networks of local sensors and meteorological stations.

VLIT requirements
Very low complexity elementary sensors, associated with a low power consumption and low-cost;
High reliability of the decision /estimation/ measurement of the network as a whole;
Long network life-time for low maintenance and stand-alone operation;
High scalability;

VLIT technology
Working frequency - 868.0 – 868.6 MHz Distance between nodes - In the line-of-sight:
at least 200m in any weather conditions, at least 800 m in ideal weather conditions
Communication support - At least Point-to-point, Point-to-multipoint, multi – hopping
Technology supports - wireless networking (with corresponding operating system), data collection, data processing at least on calculation of simple operations level, data transmission

VLIT technology
Battery Lifetime of Node - 6 months – 5 years (depending on battery size and type of communication)

VLIT NODE as concentrator
At least one node in network must act as so called “concentrator”. This node collects all data from network and forwards them to the upstanding system (RS485 bus).

MORT gateway
Gateway is small computer kit based on modules compatible with industrial standard PC104
In the case, gateway consists of power board (powering of other boards, battery handling), processor board (AVR Atmega with sram memory, flash), GPRS modem board (optionally with GPS module) and RS485 expansion board

Database
For main data storage Postgres with PostGIS relation database management system is used.
Important tables: units sensors Phenomenon's Observations alert events alerts

Web services
Metadata about sensor network There are important information about topology of
sensor network, positions of particular sensors, types of sensors and observed phenomenons, accuracy and frequency of measurement.
Observed values From metadata users can choose what set of values
are required. By using proper service observed values can be requested. Such request can be parameterized by time period, location, phenomenon etc. There is also possible to define the output format (e.g. xml, json, csv, chart raster file)

WEB services
The operations of the SOS are separated in four profiles: core profile – three basic operations that shall
be provided by every SOS implementation transactional profile – operations to register new
sensors and insert their observations into SOS enhanced profile – additional optional
operations for getting observations or feature of interests by special parameters or for getting schemas of types or models.
entire profile – implements all operations

Visualisation
HSLayers (Help Service + OpenLayers) combines capabilities of ExtJS and OpenLayers and several helping scripts to establish truly Web GIS applications. Development started in 2007. In 2009, after 2 years of development, it was released under conditions of GNU General Public License 3.
