Verizon's IoT acquisitions in retrospectThus far, Verizon's IoT acquisitions are largely concentrated in telematics and smart city technologies.

While acquisitions like the AOL and Yahoo buys leave questions about IoT integration, other synergies are more obvious. For example, the company has indicated that LQD's and Sensity's resources will be used together to build position in smart cities, and both will be integrated with Verizon's ThingSpace platform. Similarly, the telematics acquisitions show the company shoring up position in the fast-growing connected vehicle space.

Verizon's recent Internet of Things acquisition spree and need to keep pace with competitors including AT&T, Alphabet, Facebook, and Apple in the fast-changing connectivity space make it likely the company will continue to make substantial investments in IoT technologies in the near future.
