Opportunity to strengthen Academia participation in the Union (Circular Letter No.15/029 )

• Circular seeking the support of Member States in implementing Resolution 169 (Rev. Busan, 2014) “Admission of academia to participate in the work of the Union”. The 2014 Plenipotentiary Conference introduced a single annual fee for Academia to participate in the work of all three Sectors, in addition to resolving that Academia be able to make remote interventions at ITU meetings, as part of a strategy to widen Academia participation in the Union.

• A number of Member States have already taken significant actions to implement Resolution 169. I encourage you to refer to Document C15/80-E submitted by Argentina to Council 2015 as an example of how Member States can support the participation of a number of their universities.

• By participating in ITU Study Groups, Academia are able to share their expertise and help shape future international standards and best practices. Academia can also get involved in activities such as Kaleidoscope, ICT Challenges, ITU Academy and the Ad-hoc Group on Education about Standardization as well as various other ITU global and regional conferences and workshops.
