What is UniProt?

• UniProt is the universal protein resource • A central repository (storage area) of protein data • UniProt is a comprehensive (large scope)• high-quality• freely accessible database•  www.uniprot.org

Collaboration

• UniProt is produced by the UniProt Consortium(Association)- a collaboration between the European Bioinformatics Institute (EBI)  the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics (SIB)Protein Information Resource (PIR).

What is the use of UniProt ?

• Useful in finding protein sequence and functional information.

•  It contains a large amount of information about the biological function of proteins.

• Useful for inferring evolutionary information.• We can also find out about the function of proteins by 

studying properties such as the biological processes they are involved in.
