My goal for today…

…is to help disambiguate the word “Cloud”

Page 4: The Unambiguous Cloud - Ori Weizman - OpenStack Day Israel 2016

Some “Cloud” terminology used today…

Public Cloud

Dedicated Cloud Community

CloudCloud

PlatformPrivate Cloud

Cloud Framework

Cloud Services

Hybrid Cloud

IaaS PaaS

The National Institute of Standards and Technology’s “Cloud” definition

“Cloud computing is a model for enabling ubiquitous,

convenient, on-demand network access to a shared

pool of configurable computing resources (e.g.

networks, servers, storage, applications and services)

that can be rapidly provisioned and released with

minimal management effort or service provider

interaction.”

Let’s simplify a bit…

Cloud computing simply represents the latest evolution of efficiencies!

Page 7: The Unambiguous Cloud - Ori Weizman - OpenStack Day Israel 2016

Greater efficiency = greater capacity

A familiar quote

“The only consistency in this life is change!”

“Cloud” did not replace “Server…”

So what is OpenStack?

…and frameworks can be deployed

…and deployments provide services

So what might be the next logical increase in efficiency??

Traditional(fat) O/S Cloud

(thin) O/S?
