IT procurement control: A new business imperativeNonstandard devices and platforms drive up support costs, and empirical data backs that up:

• Gartner Group reports that a “locked and managed PC costs 43% less to keep.”

• Other estimates say nonstandard configurations are 3X in annual support costs.

What this means is that every department that “goes rogue” has the potential to create huge cost and support headaches for IT. Potentially made even worse by the rapid proliferation of devices and technologies.
