The Good, The Bad, and The FREE: Great Smartphone Games

Have you ever been hooked on a cellphone game? It’s okay, we’ve all been there! (Some of us are still hooked!)

They’re simple, wacky, and keep goading you into pushing your boundaries after each failure. Part of what makessmartphone games so attractive is the short learning curve and limited number of options.

People playing on smartphones aren’t looking for the typical PC or console game. They want something easy thatanyone can figure out. These games typically incorporate some type of competitive angle, since everyone likes tocompete against their friends and post the highest score possible.

In case you’re not sure what to search for in the App Store, here are a few cool mobile phone games that are FREE todownload. All you need to invest is a little bit of time. These are definitely worth it, if you haven’t tried them already. Hearthstone Heroes of Warcraft

This is one of the most popular card games created, hands-down. So it was only a matter of time before it wasoptimized for Android and iOS platforms. As far as trading-card games go, the rules for Hearthstone are much simplerthan, say, “Magic the Gathering,” for instance. The Hearthstone game is competitive and has a large following. Thebest part is that it’s FREE to play (F2P)! However, in a way, it’s pay to win! That means if you lack the necessarydedication and/or time to play on a daily basis, then you may end up coughing up some dough. Badland

This game is bad — in the best sense of the word! If you enjoy the game “Limbo,” then you should definitely download“Badland”! (Did we mention it’s free?!) The mood and the setting are reminiscent of “Limbo,” but the game-playexperience is quite different. Instead of walking, you float around with a round hedgehog creature. Along the way youhave to overcome various game obstacles, some of which can be extremely challenging, making it all the more fun!

Subway Surfers

Remember Sonic the Hedgehog? Subway Surfer operates from the same basic idea. There are numerous variationsof “runner games” these days, and almost all of them are great. The premise is simple. All you need to do is jump, roll, move left, and move right to collect as many coins as possible. There also various items you can collect as you runthat will give you a boost in mobility. All things considered, runner games are one of the best pastime activities youcould want. The Simpsons Tapped Out

Who doesn’t love The Simpsons? D’oh! Putting you right smack dab in the middle of Springfield itself, this game willkeep you occupied for a long time. Although it may be the embodiment of freemium gaming, there’s no risk of thisgame becoming boring. You’ll embark on and complete quests, erect buildings, gain levels and be constantly temptedto spend real cash in order to speed up the whole process! So if you want to see some action, and you’re not easilyswayed into throwing your money away, then you won’t have any regrets playing this game. Candy Crush Saga

This game is based on the popular “Bejeweled” game, only instead of diamonds, you line up different types ofcandies. Granted, this game looks ridiculous watching someone else play! BUT, as soon as you start, look out! You’rehooked! Next thing you know, time is flying by as you make progress through each level. Just as with The Simpsons, you’ll need a significant amount of willpower to resist shelling out for additional credits. So consider this post fair warning: don’t blame us if you get addicted to any of these games!
