The European Cloud Initiative:Building a competitive data and knowledge economy in Europe (2016)
• European Open Science Cloud (EOSC)• Integration and consolidation of e-infrastructures• Federation of existing research infrastructures and
scientific clouds• Development of cloud-based services for Open Science• Connection of ESFRIs to the EOSC
• European Data Infrastructure (EDI)• Development and deployment of large-scale European
HPC, data and network infrastructure
• Widening access• SMEs, Industry at large, Government

Current WP (DDL 29/3/2017)• Theme 1 – EINFRA-12-2017 – Data and distributed
computing e-infrastructures for Open Science (€40 M€)• Integration and consolidation of e-infrastructure services
• Theme 2 – EINFRA-21-2017 – Platform-driven e-infrastruct. innovation (€20 M€)• Service development
• INFRASUPP-02-2017(3) – Support to the Research Data Alliance (RDA) (€3.5M€)
• Proposers' Day for EINFRA 12, 19/1/2017 Amsterdam
But what is the EOSC?• Trusted and open environment for the scientific
community to store, share and reuse scientific data and results: a commons, a federated environment
• EOSC leverages other actions taken by the commission to promote Open Science in Europe, e.g. open access to publications and data
• It presupposes shared technological standards, shared services and shared minimum cultural perceptions and practices about openness in the research process
EOSC as enabler of Blue Growth
• Enable data interoperability• Provide cloud-based services to reuse scientific
information • Enlarge the user-base to the public, to businesses
and innovators• Enable a seamless environment across Europe,
overcoming fragmentation to services and information
Blue Bridge and the EOSC
Bluebridge contributions towards building EOSC• Integration of data and technologies• Computational capacity • Services for institutions and SMEs• Contribution towards education and skills development
Bluebridge as part of EOSC • Becoming part of the ecosystem of einfrastructure
service providers • Collaboration, collaboration, collaboration
